If someone who knows the game would be willing to write one (ala Monk and PLO) I would appreciate it. I have decided to learn the game and have no idea what the hell I am doing.
Rhound - I got 2 outted in a $2000 pot last year, I have also broke a cup in half playing catcher. The feelings were similar.

I am far from an expert but here are some of the things I have picked up. Granted I am only playing PL not limit.

You only want to draw to 7's or good 8's ie 85432 or 86432. 2's and 7's are super valuable cards a hand like 247 is a much better drawing hand than 3456 for the first draw.

Be carefulll drawing to any card with a 6 in it unless you have a 2 and a 7 to go with it. Draws like 2456 are a little blinding because it looks like you have a good draw. You really dont, if you hit your perfect 7 you still have made the worst possible 7, still a strong hand but if you are going to draw to a money card make it be a money card for the nuts. If you make an 8 you have a decent hand but still not great.

Calling raises I wont call a raise without having 2X7 or 234. Reraising is very rare before the first draw so you can actually steal some pots by reraising before the draw from some agressive players. Beware though because of the game weakness there are a lot of people who just call call call.

At this point with 2-7 TD it reminds me of when I first started playing NLHE. I didnt really have to outplay anyone, the majority of players were so bad that all I had to do was be patient enough to play better hands and better draws than my opponants and I win in the long run. Again with these style opponants tight is right, my VPIP is about 20% according to my PT numbers and this is in a 6 handed game. In games where people call raises and then draw 3 to 56 there is no reason to get fancy or try to bluff. Wait ot make hands and let them pay you off when you do.

Postion is more important in tripple draw than any other poker game I have played. This might not be as true for limit but in PL and NL this is huge. A mediocre hand like a made J is a favorite vs any 1 card draw. Position give you the ability to not really hit a great draw say you have the best possible 1 card draw 234710 with one card left to draw. In postion you can see what your opponant does, if they stand pat you have a very nice redraw 2 cards to make a good 7 and 1 card to make a decent 8. If they draw 1 you can stand pat and know you likely dont need to impove to win the hand.

Again I dont know about Limit but in PL/NL very few people bluff. When someone makes a big bet into OOP it is almost always a made hand with a few exceptions. There are also a large majority of people that are 100% straight forward, they raise preflop and draw 2, good chance they have something like 2X7, or 234. If they bet again good chance they improved and are now drawing 1 or are made.

Most games can be beat solely by playing the right hands pre-flop so let’s start there.

Here is my pre-flop criteria (remember I have only played 1 session so this might need major work).

I fold when:
- I have to call a bet to draw 3
- My 2 card draw is to 87 or worse
- My 1 card draw is to 9 or worse

For now I am only raising no draw or 1 card draws (I know I am probably leaving some money on the table, but I will plug that leak later). I raise when
- I have a single draw to 86 or better where I have 2 or 3 cards to make it e.g. 2347, 2457, 2348, 2358, 2568, etc.
- I have a no draw hand 87 or better

I call when:
- I have 3 cards <= 8 but not X78
- I have a 1 card draw to 86 or better which has 1 card to make it

During the beginning of my first session I played way too loose, and slowing tightened up over the session. I think that I need to tighten up more so please cut this apart.

It really doesnt matter how many cards you draw to to make a 9 this is not a worthwhile draw, unless you have a redraw in which case draw to the lower card. Drawing to 9X652 is going to cause you to have to make a lot of choices on the end. And it is a hand that isnt going to win at showdown all that often. Good rule of thumb is never draw to anything worse than 86 unless there are special circumstances like a villian drawing 3.

You are correct that you should never call a bet to draw 3, the only possible exception is from the SB I will complete and draw to 23 or 27. Again when you say you call anytime you have 3 cards less than 8. You need to be really carefull with this one, this could turn into a major leak. Calling raises with 456 is going to get you in a lot of trouble. Again position is key OOP to the raisor I wouldnt call a raise with anything less than 2X7 or 234. In postion you can loosen up a a little but you should not be calling raises with anything that doesnt have a 2 in it.

Also DN's section on 2-7 TD in SS2 is actually pretty good, and it covers all the begginner level stuff. Worth the read.

Position is gigantic. If you don't forget that ever ever ever, you can't make too many costly mistakes.
