It absolutely all depends on your ability to get away from a hand. You are mostly guaranteed to lose money in the blinds. Minimizing how much you lose is the difference between winning more often than losing. Most people get stuck on hands they shouldn't have played, get just enough of the flop to encourage them even tho they are out of position, and find themselves committed and stuck, become a calling station and are at the mercy of variance. Disaster ensues.
You're better off folding most of the time.
One of the ways you can tell whether an opponent is any good is watch the way they play the blinds. If they are good, watch out. If they fire off raises, leave 'em alone. And that's from the BB. From the SB, good players are rarely seen or heard.
