I was actually thinking about the very same thing when I was walking my dog today. I came up to a number around $4/table/hour, but that's fairly rough as I was doing it in my head and without my exact stats right next to me. I'll go and find a more accurate number now.
Using the Ipod 30GB to calculate monetary value is horrible to be honest. For starters, it works out to $0.012 per point at retail value. Secondly, you won't be able to re-sell the Ipods for full retail cost so you'll lose money there.
The figure I use is $0.017 per point which is what you get when you use the PS concierge service. It's by far the best way to use your points, unless you're getting a car. Reference:
Okay i'm looking at my stats here and taking this exactly from the session I played last night. It was 3hrs 48 minutes long (round this to 4 hours) and 3,105 hands were played (round to 3,200) - are 8 tables this is 100 hands per table per hour. I got 1,893 VPPs (round to 2,000).
That gives me 7000 FPPs. 7000 x $0.017 = $119.
$119 / 4 hours = $29.75 per hour
$29.75 / 8 tables = $3.71875 per table per hour
For me, it's highly unlikely that I will leave Stars. Firstly i've cleared every signup bonus at every major site there is. With the amount of hands I play a day i'll probably clear a bonus in anywhere from 1-3 days and then have to spend the time withdrawing my money and re-depositing it to another site. This may leave my money tied up for a while across several sites and leave me without a place to play (at least with a bonus). Also I hate playing on more than one site at once. I think Stars software is better than any other site out there. I have a huge database and know all of the regulars who play at Stars. It is very easy to withdraw money from PS as they can send me a cheque in AUD. They have the best customer support on the web. They are constantly improving/updating their site. If I manage to get 200,000 VPPs this year i'll get an extra $2,000 and if I make 300,000 i'll get another $3,000 on top of that, so $5k total. I haven't and don't feel like working out the numbers for this, but i'm sure this also adds a small $/table/hour to what i'm getting. Another thing is I know my money is always safe on Stars, whereas if I had money on Pokerroom skins or other sites not as large, I run the (albeit small) risk of losing it. Pokertracker works perfectly with Stars. Resizeable tables (this one not so much for me, but in general). Saving table layouts is also a plus. You can see mucked cards at showdown, something not available on all sites. HHs are great.
I could probably think of more, but i've made my point.
Poker is silly.
It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.
Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.
