I'm cross-posting this to both the MTT and SnG forums, since the phenomenon seems to exist at both type tournies.

I just returned to Stars, after a 5 week go at the tables at Absolute. I was referring to Absolute as "Miniraise City", but seem to notice it occurring at Stars as well. Lots of miniraises from all positions. They seem to start to occur when the blinds get large enough to make a difference.

I rarely miniraise but the thing that's startled me is that they seem to work about half the time, which would seem to make it a profitable move, with little risk, if made occasionally and judiciously. I'm startled to see big stacks, even from LAGgy types, surrender their $200 blinds to a $200 raise made from MP. Maybe, because it seems to beg for a call?

Anyone else noticing this? Thoughts would be appreciated. I'm especially interested in whether you'd use this move since I think I know how to react or defend against it.

In Erick Lindgren's book he says he likes to min-raise from EP..and from MP and LP make raises 3x and rarely 4x.


The reason he does this is he likes to keep the pot smaller for when he outta position and make the pot a little bigger when he's in position. And the min-raise has nothin to do with what his hand is because he'll do it with AA to 67 suited.
