Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

Happy new year and Bankroll anniversary !!

Today is one year exactly since I started building my BR from $100 cash to what it is today. I started at 10NL at sportingbet and built my BR up to a point where I could switch to Party Poker 25NL, from there it has been uphill (mostly).

Now I am comfortably rolled for 200 NL 6 MAX and I think I have 400 NL in sight in a few months. I have gone from being a losing player in 2005 (-900$@100NL), to a winning in 2006 with a solid bankroll and an awesome PTBB winrate. December paid me off $2000 with only 5K hands.

I'm sure I have BTP and you guys to thank for that accomplishment :)

Badbeat of the year

Just found out we expect another baby, of course it is more fun than a bad beat, but I have no doubt it will be very -EV for my poker career. On the other hand I have reached a profitable limit and don't think I have to put in as many poker hours as I did in 2006 in order to make some nice mulah. Baby is expected in August so I have to put in most my hours by then.

Total BR $7750

Monthly update

EEeek, its been awhile. I'm still around, pokerwise until yesterday this year has been breakeven.

This year started with a 7 buyins downswing at the $200's which hit rock bottom at around mid January. Mostly card decked according to myself and simply not getting paid of enough when I hit.

Anyway, things are starting to shape up again and after two big sessions I'm back in the black for this year again at the $200 NL level. Currently a whopping +0.35 PTBB which amounts to about the same $$/hour as my winrate at the $10NL was 1 year ago LOL :D.

Anyway I expect it to be uphill from here and will post back as soon as I get some result at least my BR is still with me.

Off to watch some Cardrunner vidoes for inspiration.

Total BR $7600-ish

:D :D :D :D 10 K !!! :D :D :D :D

Thanks to some Party fish this morning I broke my magical 10 K $ limit for the first time ever. A 50 buying BR feels very sufficient and I'm thinking of starting to cash out my winnings (or part of) soon.

I actually thought I would be here much before now, this year I started with 7K and I only made 4K this year until now which is pretty unsatisfactory, Jan - Mar was breakeven (over 22K hands  ) and april and may saw me making 1.5-2 K each, which is ok as I only play about 10 K hands per month. (I think I'm around 5 PTBB my last 2 months).

I don't think I'm ready for the swings or amounts of 400 NL yet and 200 NL offers plenty of excitement for me still. I might take some shots at 400 NL a suitable crazy fish Party weekend and see if I can win while trying to keep my heartbeat rate down.

Well done on reaching that milestone, Cooper.

What are the avg table VPIP/PFRs like at Party these days (Euro evenings/weekends)?

*&%..shit.. Dropped back 6 buyins in 2 sessions

2 flush over flushes, set vs flopped straights, folding to constantly minraised flops etc. Suckouts by idiots who calls me down with A2o OOP on a 777 flop, turn Q (I had AQ) - all in, river is A for split....$400 pot split....Fucking retard

AA,KK,QQ all blind collectors only... bleh.

Party is far from what it once was...Typical table averages around 25-30% VPIP's. Though often made up of 4 20/15/x regulars and 1-2 donks (50/5/x), when the donks are busted the regulars split. Table selection, table selection, table selection.

Sometimes I think the task of constantly looking for a good table is taking over the poker playing itself..

Nothing is as satifsying as scoring up a good solid session after running bad recently !

Nothing ordinarry really, I hit some good hands for a change, stacked a set with a flush, stacked some shortstacks with my sets and managed to avoid the normal tricky spots :)

Up $500 in 1 hour and it felt FAN-tastic especially since I had 2 losing sessions in a row before. Jeeses poker feels good when things are going your way. I did loose one $200 pot to a flush suckout on river but that happens.

Bought a new HP Pavillion 17" portable computer (Screen 1440*900 I think) I hope the overlapping is not too crazy and I can use it for 4-6 tabling when away from home.

BR: $8700 (That laptop was expensive, $1500...)

Damn that laptop was a good investment !

Not only can I 5 table on it (with acceptable overlap of course) but I can do it sitting in the sofa in front of the TV with the laptop in my knee. What is good about this is that my wife stopped complaining about me sitting in the other room playing poker at evenings :)

Only played 7K hands in July due to vacation times but I've had some solid sessions the last week and July PTBB is a stunning 8 , I hope to keep it this month out and I should finish a solid 3K$ up for the month.

I'm thinking of starting to put in some 400NL tables when I hit the 12K mark though they are a lot fewer than the number of 200 tables in the evenings. I'll probably set a 5 buyin stop loss and be prepared to drop down to 200 again.

BR: $10000
(Only 10 buyins to go to $400.. yay)

Mostly long boring sessions...

Uneventful days in my journal. Grinding a bit 1/2 at party still. My brother who is also playing is recommending iPoker network, think I'm going to check it out to see if it's better than Party.

I have found plenty of bad players at Party so they are still around. As usual I cannot make a hand for my life against them and they just don't give me any respect but call my barrels down with 33 etc.

You have to keep an eye out for the regulars as well, special thing about Party is that the skill levels of opponents varies SO greatly at the table.

One weak interesting hand yesterday:
I had AK in MP, I raise to $10, button who is Nitty Mc Nitterson (12/6/x ), multitabling and winning calls to HU:

Flop:
Ad9h7h, pot $22
I bet $18, McNitty thinks for 5 seconds and reraise to $40, I pretty much insta-fold. Sure it could be a flush or str8 draw but I'm not going along to find out.

Stacked a AJ with my AK PF.
Stacked a looser with QQ vs his KQo PF (60BB)
Nothing ordinary.

August is now 5 PTBB at 8K hands. I might reach my 12K BR and move up to 400 NL but I'm not that confident I want to yet.

Interesting session at Party yesterday

Almost exclusively multitabling regulars (I played 5x6max tables myself ;), I did eventually get a hand against the table idiot:

I raise A9o to $8 on button, BB who is the table idiot calls. Effective stacks $320.

FLOP: $20
Ac9s7s

BB check calls my $20 bet

Turn 6 (offsuit) pot $60

BB bets $10 (lol), I raise to $70, BB pushes all in for $260 more ! I don't think a made str8 plays like this and I'm certainly not folding top 2 to this guy so I call.

he flips A3s for the nut flush draw and I am very suprised to see that for just for ONCE someone doesn't hit their hand against me.

Ship a $640 pot thankyouverymuch.

Other highlights:

- flopped the nut flush against a KK on a KJ9 monotone hearts board (I had ATh) - punishment for not reraising your KK preflop.

- I Stacked off with overpair against a flopped set for 75BB (duh)

- Stacked an UTG AA limper from BB with K7o, 2 paired the flop and took his stack (only 50BB) but it's always fun when someone limps AA UTG and nobody raises only to stack of on a rag board.

August is currently 5.5 PTBB over 9K hands

Hot stuff !

I have been running good all August which is a long stretch for me by any standards.

My last sessions I have not only been running good but sizzling hot ! On top of this I have also been playing quite good I think, so that, and the fact that the Poker gods are smiling at me has allowed me to crush the Party tables in a way that I almost feel apologetic towards my unknowing opponents...

A few selected highlights:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?1378325
A monster draw if there was one... He did have top set I wonder if I had the majority of pot% equity on flop anyway ?

Board: 9d 2c 3d
Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 59.697% 59.70% 00.00% 591 0.00 { 9h9s }
Hand 1: 40.303% 40.30% 00.00% 399 0.00 { 5d4d }

Ooops, guess I did suckout on him anyway then...

http://www.pokerhand.org/?1378328
This poor villain I had been beating on the whole session just flopping big hands, finally he (she) catches his set against me and look what happens....oh my.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?1378333
Stack a shortstack fun

http://www.pokerhand.org/?1378337
Stack an idiot

http://www.pokerhand.org/?1378346
My biggest suckout of the month (hopefully), Never in the world did I put him on his hand, how stupid can you be..

Lowlight of the session:
http://www.pokerhand.org/?1378334
My reraise PF is horrendous I well deserved this so I learn to raise like a man PF the next time....

2 days, 1600 hands, up $1200 ;)....

Total BR $12150

Ok, so this puts me at my bankroll requirement to move up to 2/4 :? Honestly don't know if I have the guts, we'll see, I'll stay on 1/2 until end of august and try to build my BR a bit more, after that it's time for a 5 buyin shot at 2/4 methinks.
