Beautiful way to end a session...

Postby TightWad » Tue May 10, 2005 7:39 am

So, I was playing my last orbit on my tables, after having had a very nice session. Lately, I've been playing a bit tighter on my last go-'round, because it's rather depressing to blow off a good bit of my gains on stupid marginal plays (as I've often done in the past). Then, this hand came up. I reckon it speaks for itself, so...ummmmm...I'll stop talking. :)

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: TW is MP with [Ks], [Kd].
UTG raises, TW 3-bets, 4 folds, UTG caps, TW calls.

Flop: (9.50 SB) [Qd], [2d], [Kc] (2 players)
UTG bets, TW calls.

Turn: (5.75 BB) [3c] (2 players)
UTG bets, TW raises, UTG calls.

River: (9.75 BB) [Qc] (2 players)
UTG bets, TW raises, UTG 3-bets, TW caps, UTG calls.

Final Pot: 17.75 BB

Results in white below:
UTG has Qs Qh (four of a kind, queens).
TW has Ks Kd (full house, kings full of queens).
Outcome: UTG wins 17.75 BB.

Ouch, man! Talk about bad beat. Of course, in retrospect, it's pretty clear he had QQ - I think it'd be very hard (read: stupid) for him to cap it pre-flop with AQ, and he definitely wouldn't have jammed the river like that only aces up and a paired board.

How come you didn't raise the flop? That might have scared him off (probably not likely, but he would have had to put you on AA or KK with the preflop action, or maybe even AKs, where you would have still been ahead), leaving you with a smaller pot. But as I have to often force myself into believing, a win's a win... or, put differently, a small win is better than a big loss.

Did you still end up net-plus for the session?

Music,

Raising the flop may have been a good idea here in hindsight; although it wouldn't have changes this particular outcome, it may have been a better way to extract value. Here's my thinking on why I chose to just call...

He was a fairly decent player, so I don't think he'd cap it without AK (debatable), AA, KK or QQ. Obviously, KK is out after the flop. My concern was that I didn't want to slow him down too soon if he had AK or AA, because based on the preflop action, it'd be pretty easy for him to put me on a set and go into check-call mode with these hands if I raise the flop. Against a lot of players, I would raise, confidant that they'd keep pushing with AA or AK anyway, but in this case, I thought waiting till the turn had more value. I could be mistaken on that...

I probably would have played it the same way. I don't give people credit for quads unless there is 3 on the board. I've seen too many people overplay their KQ, AA, AK's this way to slow down for this hand. I like waiting for the turn for the raise since him have the flush draw is unlikely seeing that he would need AKd for that to make sense.

Here's one that I just got hammered on in the last round by a pretty solid player. Talk about respect here as he just calls my river bet  I had hammered him on two other tables several times so I guess I had beat him into somewhat of a submissive state but if I was him I would still be raising after I left the table with his hand.

Ugly piers. Verrry ugly.

TIghty: Jezus christ man! Your not gonna be sttin for a week after that one. I dont think ive ever run the Boss FH into quads in HE. Ughhh!

I posted this one in my journal, but ill post it here too so people that could give a crap less about me and my poker life dont miss out on this little gem. Its not like i had a monster hand, but its just amusing because i still managed to lose ALOT because i thought i was ahead when i was way way behind, and also because its always fun to witness true muppetry.

Dealt to NoGooooooooo [Qs] [As]
trailorstud calls [$10]. <<--MIZOR utg limps. Hm. What could he have?
ruinatotal calls [$10].
osg271 folds.
golfjoynt calls [$5].
NoGooooooooo raises [$10]. <-Im runnin good so i raise from the BB.
trailorstud calls [$10].
ruinatotal calls [$10].
golfjoynt calls [$10].
** Dealing Flop ** [Ad] [3c] [8s] <-looks like a lock to me!
golfjoynt checks.
NoGooooooooo bets [$10].
trailorstud raises [$20]. <--? weak ace?
ruinatotal folds.
golfjoynt folds.
NoGooooooooo calls [$10].
** Dealing Turn ** [3h]
NoGooooooooo checks.
trailorstud bets [$20].
NoGooooooooo raises [$40]. <I like mine enough to pop the turn
trailorstud raises [$40].
NoGooooooooo calls [$20]. REPOP?!?!

THOUGHTS: What in gay hell can he have? Hes the type of mizor that raises any ace coming in, so he doesnt have A3, or 88 for the same reason, or AK for that matter. And even he wouldnt have the gall to raise me with a naked 3 after i showed enough strenth to raise from the BB into 4 limpers, would he? I am pretty shure im beat but have no idea at all what he could have.

** Dealing River ** [Kc]
>You have options at Table 30518 (6 max) Table!.
NoGooooooooo checks.
trailorstud bets [$20].
NoGooooooooo calls [$20].
trailorstud shows [8d] [3s] a full house, Threes full of eights.
[Yup the godawful mizor limped with this UTG. NIHAN!
NoGooooooooo doesn't show [Qs] [As] two pairs, aces and threes.
trailorstud wins $278 from the main pot with a full house, Threes full of eights.

I dunno i don think i couldve gotten away from this hand...anyone?
