Woot! My business trip (I feel all growzed up) was cut short so I am coming back on this Sat. Hopefully that means I will be able to play the 1/2 Pitt live game on Wed or at the very least I will be able to play some online sometime next week.

Meh. Well I have finally gotten the chance to run all my December hands through Phils tool and it looks about like I would expect.



Basically I was around $500 below the equity I should have received and even if I did win the equity I should I have I would still have been break even. The green line going steadily down like that isn't going to do good things to my total win rate.

I think this seals it. Like Kuso I think it is time to move away from PLO8.

My first PLO session wasn't great but it wasn't horrible. As expected I feel like a total donk playing this game and I am spending too much time puzzling over hands and draws to develop any decent reads. This is going to be painful for a little while because I think the best part of my game is the ability to change gears based on opponent. I am sure that it will come but in this session I felt luck to get out of it with a win.

Got another short session in. I still feel like I am playing like a donk but that one felt a little better then the last one. That time I was able to get reads and play strong as long as I wasn't playing > 2 hands. A couple of times I ended up playing 3 or 4 hands and I was having trouble keeping track of my hand / reading the board.

I also saw some truly donktastic play, so I am confident that I will be able to beat this game. Even without playing well I think that I can beat it for a reasonable clip. As for achieving a “good” winrate, it will just be a question of how quickly I can pick up the subtleties of the game but I think I will have it pretty well in hand in a couple of weeks. I also think that by the time I hit 1K I will have it more then pretty well in hand.

Strange session. I got it all in 4 times, 3 as a favorite and 1 as a dog, and ended up 2 for 4. That in itself wasn't strange, what was strange was I lost a ton of hand where I hit a draw which also filled someone up. I never call a bet on a draw on a paired board but these were hands where nobody showed intrestet in the pot so I bet to take it down. Then the ugly card hit. I leaked > $100 this way on this session so I need to figure out if it was just cold decks or I have a major leak to plug. I posted a hand about this, so we shall see what everyone says.

I missed posting about a session yesterday because I didn't want to think about it anymore; I am having trouble figuring out how to beat this game. Basically I don’t understand how I am supposed to make money. The game is 6 handed so the blinds come around way too fast to nut peddle, so I try to get aggressive but there is always someone who is loose enough to call my CBs. Then I finally hit a hand he calls my CB then folds to the second barrel. I start watching more closely and he does this quite frequently. Now I am not afraid of second barreling but I don’t really think it should be my main source of money.

It seems like every time I get played back at it is by someone with a real hand. I haven’t gotten paid off by a underset, a smaller flush, even a smaller two pair. My guess is that those hands are calling my flop bets but folding to a second bet which leads me back to the question of how to make money playing this game.

There is no way that this game is unbeatable so either I am running bad or I need to change my strategy. I am currently @ 2K hands, and I will post my stats @ 2.5K. Maybe someone will see something that I am not.

Edit: Another sad occurrence happened in these two sessions. I am now officially down playing PLO. I haven’t been down at any game since Dec 2004
