12k Hands into 6Max…. Variance is killing me

I’m not sure I’m doing this 6max project completely well.. I’m suffering huge and I mean HUGE variance, which is kind of disappointing. I struggle to get some winnings during a session and suddenly with 10 minutes I end up loosing 2, 3, 5 Buy-ins, and then struggle to get them back again. Since last entry, my win rate went down from 5 to 2.4 PTBB, but at least is still positive.

My game has been adapting to 6Max, I’m starting to play much more hands than I was playing when I just started and it seems it has been working. Also, I’m really working hard on my aggression; it seems I was able to be much more aggressive when I was playing FR.

So I am back

Well, for those of you who didn't know, and just for and update: I had been playing for a while now until November last year when I decided to cashout my BR and stop playing poker for a while. I was moving to Australia, (used to live in Colombia) and starting my Master on International Business, so until I had things running I didn’t want to had the temptation of playing poker because I was sure I would need lots of time to get things running here, and needed to focus in my course.. and things are now working perfect. I’m living in Melbourne with my girlfriend and my master is going very well so far…. So back to poker time  !!

I deposited $500 25 days ago on my UB account. And I have been playing $50NL 6max. 3 Tabling. I start doing very good for a while and then a huge downswing which included tilting away some buy-ins, and I’ve been recovering ever since that huge downswing. So far 30K Hands, some tilting sessions, some rough sessions and some very good sessions; apart from the tilt, everything standard so far. My PT/100 is not good at all (1.2PTBB/100), but on the positive side I feel like my 6max skills are much better than they were before I quitted almost 5 months ago, and getting better each and every day. Also my new BR has already doubled to 1K. I’ve been reading and trying to learn a lot, and trying to get that new knowledge to the table.

So.. I am back and happy to be updating my journal again.

Cheers

AXN

Pd. Forgot to mention, few days ago I was bored so I enter a donknament ($1 plus rebuys) 207 people.. incredible I demolish my way to take it down for a total of $260. Small and lots of donks, but still it was my first NL Tournie win ever. also managed to place 2nd and 3rd in small LO8 and NL tournies again last week. =D>

FTP Report + 60k Hands

So I moved to FTP to clear bonus and have additional rakeback; it all started very good during the first couple thousands of hands, however last 15k hands I've been suffering a massive down swing. I think I saw this coming, my low win rate was going to take me soon to a downswing and it happen. I've completed 60k hands now, and I am back to where I started with a 0,01 PTBB / 100 hands .... :? Rakeback and bonuses made me almost twice my starting BR, however those funds I need them to pay some stuff, so no real improve in terms of BR.

During this downside period I have been revising my game, I figured I was playing too loose for this lvl VPIP 22~25 and PFR 19~ (50NL) and making moves or trying to push people out of pots when clearly they just can't fold. So basically aside from not playing great, I also had some horrible beats and horrible calls from other players; I'll post some of these horrible hands in few.

So I have decided to tighten up my preflop range and stop trying to push people who can't fold any pair. Following some advice I have been playing extremely tight lately and just a little bit more passive than the over agressive style I was playing. It seems it is much better at this lvl. I'll see how it goes with this new adjustment to my game.

I also need to work on folding much more when I KNOW I'm behind and still call... during last couple of sessions I have been unable to fold my AAs, or Over pairs and even TPTK. At least once or twice per session when everything was telling me I was behind, I knew I was behind, I told my self in my mind I was behind, my instincts, the board, the player, etc etc etc.. I still called :!: How can I have such Calling Station tendencies :?:

Oh well.. I'll try to work on that.

Your assessment of how to attack NL50 (on full tilt for that matter) seems pretty good, I have the same issue at times of getting too aggressive and trying to push players off their second pair or what not.

Good luck building your bankroll up, Party is a lot softer @ NL50 for the record, less aggro too, but no rake back...

Running better / Feeling much better.

Adjustments to my game seems to be working so far. I've started to play less hands and moved to a VPIP around 19 with a PFR of 16 - 17. Why play loose or semi-loose when 90% of the players don't notice and don't care how you are playing...
Very tight, aggressive, always looking to play my hands in position, table selection and targeting weaker players has been the "new" strategy, apart from not being soooooo aggressive.
I also adjusted my play with small to medium pocket pairs, basically I was turning them into bluffing hands..

Off course there's always a bad beat here and there but we all know thats part of the game; It's 4 sessions now since I started adjusting my game, 3 of them very nice winnings and the other one, a 12 hour session where I managed to be 4 Buys Ins up, then in a 30 minutes period down to -4 Buy ins, then back to even..etc.. ended up loosing little bit more than one buy in in that session. I have also noticed that very long sessions are detrimental to my game, after many hours maybe because I'm tired or something, I just start making silly mistakes. so from I have decided to play a maximum of 4 hour sessions and then taking breaks of at least 1 hour before getting back to the tables.

It's been something around 6K hands since I adjusted my game, and not only I am running better, but I also feel better about my game.

Here’s a graph of the total hands since I started playing again.

And my first Royal F since I started playing again.. I bet flop, turn and over bet river too see if maybe Villain got curious and he did… called me with 4d. 

Please post that hand on pokerhand.com because I want to see villain call on the river there. If so, that is maybe the sexiest call of the week...nihan sir. Overbetting the river with a Royal Flush is tite.

Grant me the Serenity to keep Tilt Free and the Wisdom to know when to stand up.

Yesterday I managed to blow 21 BuyIns between LO8 HU and 50NL,.. 85% of this due to Tilt and lack of discipline on Bankroll management!!! <loser>

I was doing extremely well, and my game had been insane good during the last few days, so this really piss me of...!!! Basically within one day I threw away everything I had been working on during the last month. Feeling very frustrated atm.

I won't play today, trying to cool of. Before going back to the tables.

I still have 24 BuyIns for 50NL so everything is not lost. But I was planning to cash out 1/2 my BR and now I can't.

Discipline!! The biggest leak in my game.
