Hand of the day from yesterday:
forum/viewtopic.php?t=25038

I'm still thinking about this one actually. RB says in the last post there that this is AA, KK a large percentage of the time. I think that's right, but I also think AXs min raises here a bit as well, which is what I'm counting on to make the play +EV, though I guess even without it, there are more AK combos than AA+KK, so should be in good shape. AT any rate guy donk calls with an offsuit AK and sucks out runner runner for the flush.

Today more of the same at Cake. Just getting obliterated over there. Played UB for last session of the day and did okay. Overplayed one hand, which cost me a stack, but otherwise pretty good. Here's a hand from Cake today:
I have 66 in CO, a player I have played quite a bit with limps in MP, I raise 5bbs and only she calls. Couple notes. She isn't that good from what I have seen, but starting to think a bit more of her in this session. She has been c/r min quite a bit on the flop and the last time I called it. She checked the turn and folded to my bet, which told me she wasn't as straightforward as I had thought. At any rate, she has taken me for a good bit, with flush draws hitting and me folding, etc.

Flop: Q76r
She checks and I bet the pot, she calls
Turn: 7
She checks and I bet about 2/3 pot and she raises me the minimum. I think a bit and decide to let her fire again on the river with trips.
River: J
She pushes in. Uh-oh, I feel a bit sick and call. She has QQ. Nihan. FU Cake.

Aside from this hand I had another difficult hand where I wasn't exactly sure where I was at. Seemed like a WA/WB situation and a wise man once said, "YOu should resign yourself to calling down in spots like this." So, I did and he caught a K on the river to pair his bigslick and catch up with my JJ. All in all, rough damn day at Cake. I'll be adding everything up tomorrow after play is finished to get totals for the week and for the month of May.

Well, an interesting week. Taking a serious drubbing at Cake, while doing the drubbing at UB. :? I'll post numbers below to give an idea of why I'm so puzzled by what's going on. Can't really call the 6-max play a success or failure, since it's clearly both. I dunno, I have PT at UB, so perhaps that is really helping me out. Of course, I run like ass at Cake, so that may have more to do with it. Interesting hand of the day is posted in the NL forum (or soon will be); link is:
forum/viewtopic.php?t=25066

I'll share some of my thoughts on the hand in tonight's post. What can I say about that filthy fucking site, Cake? I need to run better. I need flushes to hit the damn river only once for every four times they don't. I get my flush chaser chasing and bam, rivered. I also need to stop spewing chips. I tend to put together a decent session and then piss it away on some hopeless play. That's mainly a matter of better discipline and not trying to get too fancy with these guys, which is something I can control, so I'll make an effort to simplify my play this week.

The limit debacle at Cake last Sunday decimated my winnings for the month of May. So May total is actually a loser of $2.63 :( . May's terrible ending gave me yet another losing month. I've basically had one big month for the year thus far and floundered around every other month. This is two losing months in a row, so I'm a bit frustrated, especially after March. I mentioned previously that it appeared my goal for 100NL full ring was unattainable with so little time remaining. I had wanted to run 5ptbb/100 for 25K hands at that level, but following my bankroll rule and some poor play coupled with bad beats I had dropped all the way down to 25NL to try and fix my play. At this point, I'm more or less finished with full ring play, at least for a couple months. I find 6-max far more enjoyable, so assuming I can improve my play, I see no reason why I would go back to full ring. I'll give full ring stats from Bodog for the year so far:
200NL: 2321 hands $35.41 W/R: negligible win
100NL: 5520 hands $529.40 W/R: 4.8ptbb/100
50NL: 13099 hands $-92.03 W/R: neglible loss
25NL: 15836 hands $617.63 W/R: 7.8ptbb/100

Weekly Stats:
Cake SH 20NL 2509 hands -$104.19 W/R: -20.76bb/100

UB SH 10NL 996 hands $61.25 W/R: 61.5bb/100 :D

Week's Total (including last Sunday): -$156

I put in just a shitload of hands this week (for me anyway), which is what I need to do in order to become proficient in 6-max. I'm running hot at UB, which accounts for a lot of the winning there. I've picked up aces and kings more than one would expect given the number of hands, so that's part of the inflated win rate. Nevertheless, I'm still quite puzzled as to why I'm at such polar opposites on these two sites.

Current Bankroll: $3707

Poor play today from me. Misread a couple situations and tilted off a stack for no good reason. I hate days like today. It all started this morning when I logged on to Bodog to withdraw some funds. I hopped on a nice looking 25NL table and was quickly up a bit before losing that and walking away from the table a small winner. Next table I have super tight guy to my left. Two limpers, I raise with TT and supertight puts in a big 3-bet and stacks one of the donks with his KK. I folded preflop there....discipline. A bit later I raise JTs and supertight 3-bets me big again. I fold...discipline. A bit later, one limper and I have JTs again and raise; supertight three-bets me for the third time. I'm starting to think supertight ain't so tight, so I 4-bet him for half my stack and he calls. I tilt off the rest of my stack on a 668 flop and he quickly calls with QQ. No horrendous beat in my favor.

I cooled off at UB today and got some big hands cracked. I also lost two stacks on flush draws that didn't get there. One was plainly retarded on my part, and I'm disappointed with how poorly I played it. I pushed in with the nutflush draw having probably almost no fold equity after a mini c/r from the BB. Second stack lost on the following hand, which is bad but not clearly retarded.

Four limpers, I check in the BB w/ [Kh] [9h]. Flop: 97 [7h]
I bet the pot and two call. So I'm thinking here that I may be up against trip sevens.
Turn: [4h] ($2)
I bet again (I should not be betting this, I don't think), $1.50. UTG min raises to $3 and the SB cold calls. I have $6.13 left and push it in. I should just call this or fold. At any rate both of them call. UTG has 67s and the SB donk has 56. River is the 8 rescuing the donkey from disaster.

So, pushing in here is spewing. I think I'm beat for sure; I have at best 11 outs but could be drawing near dead. I'm assuming UTG is calling me, but I only have 3 to 1 odds there and probably zero fold equity. So, just horrible. When donkey calls, I have a wash EV wise, but still bad. Calling there is so much better. I just check-fold on the river bust and save $4.63 or almost half a buy-in.

I didn't play at Cake today, and I'm a little too tired to fire up any tables now. I did get the monthly rakeback which helps me in my return to the black. I need to maintain discipline and stop spewing chips. I will really focus on this tomorrow. I think I have started with some FPS and I'll reign that in tomorrow.

Much better day today. I even managed to do well at Cake despite early bullshit. I have said this before, and I will say it again: If I ever stop running like ass at Cake those fuckers are in for a beat down.

Hand of the day today:
UTG ($8.60)
Hero ($12.14)
SB ($13.51)
BB ($23.26)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [5h], [5c].
UTG calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.45, 1 fold, BB calls $0.35, UTG calls $0.35.

Flop: ($1.40) [3s], [8d], [7d] (3 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $1.25, BB calls $1.25, UTG calls $1.25.

Turn: ($5.15) [4c] (3 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, Hero checks.

River: ($5.15) [Ks] (3 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $3, BB calls $3, UTG folds.

Final Pot: $11.15

Results in white below:
BB has 8s Ts (one pair, eights).
Hero has 5h 5c (one pair, fives).
Outcome: BB wins $11.15.

I like this bet at say 100NL, but it's just spewing at 10NL and I need to accept defeat and save the $3. I just saw this guy make a bad call earlier, so that made it doubly bad.. Lesson learned (maybe?).

Non-poker News: I had an interview today for an instructor position at a local college that went pretty well. It's only a temporary position, but that's all I need at the moment. I should hear something in the next few days.

Dan, almost wrote that in the journal entry to emphasize how bad it was, but figured it was obvious. I think it's atrocious for a different reason though. I know I'm not getting called by hands I beat; it's a bluff. I'm trying to push a weak 8 or 7 out of the pot, which is why I said it was a poor play at 10NL, since those guys aren't folding such powerful hands. No way is this ever remotely a good or even decent value bet.

Play today was okay. I find myself gambling more at 6 max than I do at FR preflop. I'm not sure if that's good or not, but I think I've called shorty pushes with JJ a helluva lot more than I normally did at FR. At FR I usually only call micros with JJ, same with AK. Probably good for my image as it sends a pretty clear message to the regs that they should not 3-bet me lightly, but not sure if it is worth it EV wise.

Hand of the day: I channel Xaston in this hand, as will be obvious. The board makes this play easier than a lot of the thin call downs I've seen X make, but I had a read on the opp. and decided to go with it. Opp. is a LAG, not a LAGTARD, but not exactly good either.

SB ($12.72)
BB ($9.67)
UTG ($12.03)
Hero ($16.03)
Button ($10.56)

Preflop: Hero is MP with [8c], [Ah].
1 fold, Hero raises to $0.35, Button calls $0.35, 2 folds.

Flop: ($0.85) [4d], [3c], [3h] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $0.5, Hero calls $0.50.

Turn: ($1.85) [5h] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $1.25, Hero calls $1.25.

River: ($4.35) [5s] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $2.75, Hero calls $2.75.

Final Pot: $9.85

Results in white below:
Hero has 8c Ah (two pair, fives and threes).
Button has 7s Qs (two pair, fives and threes).
Outcome: Hero wins $9.85.

Oats started an AG thread about how good flopping a set feels, which was nicely hijacked with numerous pictures of intelligent, engaging, young women, but anyway....I enjoy the thin call down a helluva lot more than the flopped set. You have your read, you follow it and it's all "vindication baby!"

Play yesterday felt pretty good. I'm not running like ass at Cake atm, so that makes playing there much better. I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of 6-max. My reads are getting increasingly better, but not where I want them. I think that will happen in time, however.

I wanted to watch the NBA game last night so just played some tournies at Bodog. Yep, there's a reason why I don't play those. Deepest result was 370-something of 5000 in a 1K gauranteed rebuy. I suppose that's decent, but still well out of the money. Meh.

Here's my favorite hand from yesterday. I'm new at the table but PT says the guy is a LAG:
Hero ($10)
UTG ($7.24)
MP ($4.42)
CO ($3.06)
Button ($9.10)
SB ($8.51)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [4s], [9h].
1 fold, MP calls $0.10, 2 folds, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: ($0.30) [Ac], [9d], [8c] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.3, MP calls $0.30, SB folds.

Turn: ($0.90) [3h] (2 players)
Hero bets $0.55, MP calls $0.55.

River: ($2) [3d] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $2, Hero calls $2.

Final Pot: $6

Results in white below:
Hero has 4s 9h (two pair, nines and threes).
MP has 7c 6s (one pair, threes).
Outcome: Hero wins $6.

After the hand villain types in chat, "N CALL." I say thank you and he responds, "???" Guess he thought I should have folded. Oh, it's so damn sweet.

Fuck poker. That pretty well sums up how I feel right now. One nice thing about not recording results each day is that all my negativity only comes out one day each week; so here it is. Seriously, fuck poker. If there were a cosmic doomswitch, it would pretty much operate as this week has. Today was quite terrible. Terrible days are bad enough, but this is Sunday, and I fucking own Sunday. This is my god damn day. Anyway, a series of bad beats and cold decks tilted my ass to high heaven. I remember reading in BKAZ's journal that he found tilt much harder to manage in 6-max. I have the same problem. What can I do? When you get one damn cold deck after another and you know from playing FR that the odds of this happening are so damn slim for even once, you tilt your ass off. So, fuck poker.

Weekly totals:
UB: 3300 hands or so, lost $7.40, but made $14.50 in bonus, so I'm up, wheeeee!
Cake: Fuck this place, no double fuck this place
1700 hands or so, lost $22.10, but again bonus put me in the black.

I'm taking tomorrow off. I'll try and get some real work done; maybe I'll play again on Tuesday. Fuck poker! Fuck the current bankroll amount! And fuck the month of June! That is all.

Yeah, fuck poker, but I've made nice; over my bitching and back to the tables today. Only played one hour today, since I thought it would be best to just come back light. I was playing a lot, so burn out might have had something to do with the breakdown in discipline. At any rate, I'm happy with my play today.

Here's a hand where I fold. Villain is a semi-loose passive player. The fold is not really that hard given the read, but I'm happy that I didn't just say screw it and call, since two hands prior I ran QQ into a shorty's AA.

UTG ($7.46)
MP ($14.91)
CO ($8.72)
Button ($10.51)
SB ($18.17)
Hero ($13.02)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Qd], [Qs].
UTG raises to $0.35, 1 fold, CO calls $0.35, 1 fold, SB calls $0.30, Hero raises to $1.8, UTG folds, CO folds, SB calls $1.45.

Flop: ($4.30) [9d], [Th], [3c] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $2.5, SB calls $2.50.

Turn: ($9.30) [3s] (2 players)
SB bets $9.3, Hero folds.

So the weekly update, which I did not provide on Sunday:
Current Bankroll: $3679
Last Week: -$27.06

Week's results are off somehow. Oh wait, I forgot the donkaments, nevermind.
