My BR has been hovering around $2800 for a few days, need to ensure my discipline is good to keep it rocking on, my standard session seems to involve making 2-3 bad plays or calls, then tightening up and getting back even.

Also I have a clear goal I want to reach from my poker time, AU$4000 to pay for wedding photos before Nov this year, should not be much of a stretch at my current winrate.

Mmm Tilt

Postby Semillon » Thu Jul 05, 2007 8:13 pm

The other day I went on serious tilt for the first time in... well months.

Ended up losing x6 buyins at NL100 over two sessions, I gathered myself and upon reflection I realised I was getting too cocky and attempting to take pots away from players without a specific read as to why I should do so.

Since stopping all that nonsense I have been crushing the games again and have passed the $3000 bankroll mark! Only need another $2000 or so before ill be comfortable withdrawing enough to pay for our wedding photographer later this year - we really splashed out in this regard, with the photos consisting of around 40% of the total cost, to pay for it with poker winnings will be real nice.

I took my first stab at NL200 as well, I was feeling focused and figured I would give one buyin a run. I ground slowly up to $300 before having to lay down AA facing some serious action on the flop, an hour or so later I had built back up past $400 and booked a comfortable and solid win. The table in question was very very juicy, I rarely see such a weak table at NL100, no doubt I just lucked out in that regard.

My next session will be two tables of NL200, wish me luck!

Well my first session of NL200 didnt go so great, my QQ overpair was cracked by a low set in a 3bet pot on a very draw heavy board, I then tilted off another buyin trying to push an ABC villain off his KK with my underpair, bad move.

Anyhow skip forward a day and my second shot went really well, +$720 from 500 hands, one hand I sucked out vs a loose/aggressive donk:

Party Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $1/$2
6 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $291.25
UTG+1: $234.90
CO: $71.60
Button: $223.55
SB: $325.74
Hero: $238.05

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is BB with [Kc] [Ks]
UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, 2 folds, SB calls, Hero raises to $9, UTG+1 calls, SB folds.

Flop: [6d] [Qh] [Jd] ($20, 2 players)
Hero bets $18, UTG+1 raises to $36, Hero raises to $80, UTG+1 calls.

Turn: [3c] ($180, 2 players)
Hero raises all-in $149.05, UTG+1 calls all-in $145.9.
Uncalled bets: $3.15 returned to Hero.

River: [6s] ($471.8, 0 player + 2 all-in - Main pot: $471.8)

Results:
Final pot: $471.8
Hero shows Kc Ks
UTG+1 doesn't show Jc Qs

However the rest was all very solid, especially being up $324 on one table without winning a pot over $50, standard aggressive positional play for the win.

I dont feel that the average NL200 player on party is any better than those at NL100, the sharks are noticably more aggressive, however there are many juicy tables to choose from.

As long as I continue to remind myself that once someone plays back at me, they probably have a good hand until proven otherwise, I should remain a consistent winner at this new limit, fun times :)

Today was a welcome to coolerville, I know the first hand was very questionable to call preflop, however what a painful river card:

Party Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $1/$2
6 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $89.35
UTG+1: $125.50
Hero: $210.80
Button: $232.70
SB: $207.20
BB: $195

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is CO with [Qd] [9c]
2 folds, Hero raises to $7, Button folds, SB calls, BB raises to $15, Hero calls, SB folds.

Flop: [7d] [9h] [Qh] ($37, 2 players)
BB bets $25, Hero calls.

Turn: [5s] ($87, 2 players)
BB bets $50, Hero raises all-in $170.8, BB calls all-in $105.
Uncalled bets: $15.8 returned to Hero.

River: [7s] ($397, 0 player + 2 all-in - Main pot: $397)

Results:
Final pot: $397
BB shows Kc Ks
Hero shows Qd 9c

Next KK runs into AA 150BB deep:

Party Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $1/$2
5 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $186.32
CO: $165.29
Button: $670.87
SB: $202.95
Hero: $309.55

Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is BB with [Kd] [Kh]
UTG calls, CO calls, Button raises to $10, SB folds, Hero raises to $32, UTG calls, CO folds, Button raises to $100, Hero raises all-in $277.55, UTG calls all-in $154.32, Button calls.

Flop: [5s] [7c] [8d] ($438.78, 1 player + 2 all-in - Main pot: $561.96)

Turn: [3c] ($438.78, 1 player + 2 all-in - Main pot: $561.96)

River: [4s] ($438.78, 1 player + 2 all-in - Main pot: $561.96)

Results:
Final pot: $438.78
Button shows Ac Ad
Hero doesn't show Kd Kh
UTG doesn't show Ks Js

Finally I flopped the nut straight vs two opponents who both got all in with the ass end of said straight, I was disconnected before I got to call, and won only a $150 side pot, instead of two buyins.

I also made a couple of questionable river calls when I knew I shouldnt, but such is life. Back to NL100 for a couple of days then ill take another stab.

My downswing continued after the previously posted cooler hands as I got over agressive and donked off a lot of money trying to win small/med pots, roll was down to $2100 before I sorted my shit out and had a $1000 day yesterday at NL200.

I need to keep reminding myself that I dont need to sit at a table of sharks and outplay them when there are opponents out there who will stack off with top pair, no kicker when I turn quads - two of them in the same pot.

I ran really well today, only made one mistake of any real note, my biggest loss for the day was only around 35BB:

Party Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $1/$2
6 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $220.75
UTG+1: $197
Hero: $200
Button: $137.65
SB: $220.40
BB: $70.50

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is CO with [Th] [Kh]
2 folds, Hero raises to $7, 2 folds, BB calls.

Flop: [Td] [8s] [8h] ($15, 2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $11, BB calls.

Turn: [Kc] ($37, 2 players)
BB bets $32, Hero raises to $64, BB calls all-in $20.5.
Uncalled bets: $11.5 returned to Hero.

River: [Qc] ($142, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $142)

Results:
Final pot: $142
Hero shows Th Kh
BB shows 8d Ad

I had several tasty hands, but the biggest win of all came to me as follows:

Party Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $1/$2
6 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $361.66
UTG+1: $202.15
CO: $90.30
Hero: $373.70
SB: $228.20
BB: $208.60

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is Button with [4d] [4s]
3 folds, Hero raises to $7, SB folds, BB calls.

Flop: [8h] [4h] [Ad] ($15, 2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $14, BB calls.

Turn: [7c] ($43, 2 players)
BB bets $32, Hero calls.

River: [7d] ($107, 2 players)
BB raises all-in $155.6, Hero calls.

Results:
Final pot: $418.2
BB shows Qs Js
Hero shows 4d 4s

His line really did look like a set until the overbet on the river, if I had AK I would have layed it down, pity for him I had the full house.

Even though I only stacked three players today, I ended up +$1200, by far my best day at poker so far, not bad for around 4 hours 3 tabling.

The advice given by the other small/med stakes players on this forum is really helping me focus and improve my game. Thanks guys!

I made my first cashout from my bankroll today, US$1000 to test out the bpay payment option with party poker. If all goes well, I will stick to NL200 for the time being, and pull out a further $3k to cover the cost of upcoming wedding photos.

My short term goal is to build my BR up to $7k so that I can make the second withdrawal and still maintain my current limit, I feel 15 buyins is comfortable for me at the moment.

After my big winning day last sunday I dropped a few buyins, but have re-stabalised and should be fine to press forward :)

I have been agressive moving up because I have no problems dropping down if I need to. Also it has to do with my comfort level at the limit I am playing, so far the move from NL100 to NL200 has been the easiest to date.
