Okay, Sat's trip report.
Shob wasn't involved...it was the 2 guys who we played with the other week (one which was involved in the skins mentioned last week), and a friend of theirs that I met for the first time. I was playing as scratch, other guy ~6, other ~14, 4th ~20. I was teamed with the ~20 and we played $2/point hi/lo team (2 pts/hole).
6400yrd from the blues, par 71, slope 119. Admittadly, the par 5s are all very short (only 1 plays as a 3-shot ONLY because there's a friggen stream around 310 from the tee, so I have to hit iron...if there's a tail-wind I go for it cuz I can carry that far if I hit it good...but no dice today). The bet was that 6 and I played straight up, and 14 gave 20 2strokes.
First fun hole was the par 3 4th where 6 put his tee shot to <2' (WOW!), we conceded the putt and I had to chip in from 30yrds (2yrds off)...and I nearly did it, lol. They took both points there and we were back to even.
My first fun shot was the Handicap 1, #5 hole:
My shot line is exaggerated because the hole picture doesn't show how dramatic the dog-leg left is...my shot went essentially dead straight and cut a LOT of the corner...they just sorta shook their heads and smiled cuz it's a 320 drive to there. The really funny thing was that I had my 3iron out to play nearly the same shot as him, but since he hit such a perfect drive, I said 'fuck it' and went for it...so I told him that he "brought it on himself" by hitting such a great shot...lol
(We took both points on that hole).
Then the LONG par 3 6th came up and my partner put it to 4' with a 3wood...just amazing (too bad he missed his putt, which he didn't need to make)...I was short in the sand and made my first bogey to go +1.
Nothing much happened till the 8th where I hit my first bomb...measured it to 340...I was as shocked as anyone actually, I'd never hit one quite that far...and even MORE shocked because I'd been REALLY struggling with my driver for the past few months...
I finally birdie 9 after having 6 ~10' putts for bird all miss
Meh. We were 4 up at the turn, IIRC. I bird the 10th getting under par, finally, but miss a 4' for par on the very tough par 3 11th to give it right back.
Nothing special until the par 5 14th which is a very slight dogleg left, slight downhill, to a very elevated sloping front-to-back green...my tee shot was 400yrds (really more like 330-340 again cuz it's downhill and I cut the corner)...unfortunately, though, I misread the wind and butchered my wedge approach just short and only made par...GRR!
Then the 360 par 4 15th...I damn near drive the green (10yrds short...WTF is with me today?) and make bird. Nearly drove the 340 16th (4yrds short and right...in the NASTIEST rough on the course)...made a sweet flop for a tap-in bird. Lipped out on the 17th par 3, and same on the 18th par 5...this was my best round since coming back to golf a year ago
We finished 6 points up...had an ABSOLUTE blast, and can't wait to play the best course on the Island on Sat (a Nicklaus course).
