Beginning of the month got off to a decent start at BetFred - some of my draws actually hit for a change and my Kings held up all in against T8o on a J99 flop.

Then of course I lost a stack to an aggro player with AA v 44 on a 664 flop. Bah. Total night's winnings, a massive $20.

Even in terms of collapsing bridge death tolls it's dwarfed by the 70 killed in Portugal, 40 in Pakistan and 33 in India in similar circumstances in recent years, but I don't suppose Mr Pawlenty has any idea where any of those places are. A good night all round saw new boy Eduardo's first ever Arsenal goal, in their 2-1 defeat of Lazio; while back at home I scrabbled around for a short while at iPoker, finishing a buy in up.

Maybe, but atm it's rigged slightly in my favour. Played another hour or so against the eurodrunks last night before tiredness kicked in: +3/4 stack.

Only managed to get 60 hands in, up $41.

No play yesterday - met up with a couple of pals for the Manure v Chavski game, though it was really just an excuse for lots of Stella in the sun, followed by a few games of pool.

Rumours abound in knowledgeable circles of imminent Gooner signings - maybe Drenthe, Martins or Quaresma?

By that definition every team will struggle this season and probably every season to come, because they won't go 38 league games unbeaten.

The unbeaten team of 2004 had key players like Henry, Vieira, Pires, Bergkamp, Llungberg, Campbell etc playing at their peak. All of these have since left.

As I've said, I think we'll get many more points this season than last and close the gap on the top 2, because most of the young or new players will add consistency to last season's erratic performances. This season I'd settle for 3rd place and a good run in the CL and FA Cup.

The ongoing boardroom/power fights are more of a worry and don't help matters much either, and the sooner the ownership question is satisfactorily resolved the better.
