Best Way To Play These Overs (eliminate or not?)

Postby Zuccala » Wed Aug 08, 2007 6:17 pm

$2 -$5 live

I get [Ac][Kc] in LP

EP raises $2, MP raises $4, I raise $6, all folds, EP calls $4, MP caps, We both call

I know MP capped it with JJ, QQ,KK, or AA. I have AK and the SB is in and he could easily have some kind of Ax hand, soJJ or QQ would be the raisers most likely hand?

flop: [2c][8h][4s] $27 (3 players)

EP checks, MP bets $2, I......????

DO I want to raise this and force the SB out of the hand? This eliminate players, which is a good thing and may also buy some outs as he could have a A2 or A4?? Or should I just call the $2 and see the turn with the EP player in? Or is it better to pay the extra $4 tops (if MP re-raises) to attempt to out the EP player? Would I only want him out if I had a made hand (like an overpair)? I mean this pot is big and I want to do everything I can to win it right (even if it means spending an extra couple bets?) If this pot was small and I was in a position like ths I would prolly just call.

Yes you make sense. I raised the flop and the EP exited (GOOD). The MP 3-bet and the I called (getting a zillion -1).

The turn was a [9s] $39

He bets $5, I folded

I was getting 8-1. I had at most 6 outs the 3 Aces and the 3 Kings so at best I was 7-1. I figured since I was not 100% he had QQ or JJ. It turns out he did have QQ but I did not turn down much of an overlay. I am just hoping my thinking and actions are correct. I just did what I thought would be best to win the hand.

Here's another question???

Do you guys ever lead into a PFR with a middle pair and FD or SD (or something similar) in a big pot hoping he raises and forces everybody to call a double bet? I mean in a smaller pot I would be more apt to check-call or check-raise but in a big pot is it right to lead into the raiser (if he is one or two spots to your left??)

Thanks for all the responses. I see what you guys are getting at and I do use some of those exact plays. I guess my question would be....If you had a middle pair and FD and the PFR is on your left (large pot) I would be more apt to bet into him. The pot is large and I want to do everything I can to win the pot. If it was a smaller pot I may wait for him to CB then when it comes around to me I would C/R. I would also use that C/R if I had the NUT FD. Witha smaller FD I would bet into him (in a large pot)...Make sense???

[quote="Zuccala"]

I know MP capped it with JJ, QQ,KK, or AA. [quote]

With this capping range, I think raising the flop is really, really bad.

1. we are going to end up putting in 3 bets everytime.

2. exactly what hands will ep fold that we want him to fold? AK for the split maybe??? Although if he does hold AK, then we are in pretty crappy shape putting in 3 bets on the flop. Do we need him to fold is KQs or AQ hand? If we get him to fold a pocket pair it doesn't matter, we are still behind to a bigger pair. Very Very rarely he will fold some pocket pair or AQ where we would hit and then he would have hit his 2 or 3 outer...but it is not worth the price of putting in 3 bets in on the flop.

Open up the cappers range, then I can reconsider, but with that range, I am going to say that raising the flop is bad.

So against a wider range, it is wirth exiting the EP? WHen you know you are getting 3-bet it is not worth the extra $4 to have the EP out? IS this because against such a small range you know it gonna cost and extra $2 on the flop for sure? If you were not going to get 3-bet everytime it is good?

I was hoping for him top fold any Axo type hand. LOtsa guys will get involved for a few bets PF with AXo so Ifd he had any part of this flop (A2 or A4) I want him out. If an A hits on the turn and he folded I just bought a few outs?? Thoughts??

So if I had some kind of hand that I wanted to protect a raise would be good. Since I have nothing but overs it is worthless to pay extra to keep him out?
