Well Pok, it's like this. I am rolled to play 3/6, but unfortunately I don't have a ton of money at Cake. So I buy in for $60 which is the default minimum, and 60 is usually enough at a 3/6 FR game to play long enough to win some hands and build it up to a respectable size. Also, while it may not be enough to absolutely maximize the betting on a single hand, it is close enough for me (personal preference) while having the benefit of also protecting me from losing a ton should I get sucked out on in a big pot right off the bat. (Which happens waaaaaaaayyyyyyy too often when you are me.)

Basically, it's just something I have done for a long time, am comfortable with and haven't ever found a compelling enough reason to change it. YMMV. I'm QUITE sure there are those who will disagree with me on this.

well, I'll take a stab at this Seb...

WIth buying in short to "protect yourself" you're only saving 2BB on that hand you get sucked out on, but risk losing more then that because you can cap the river and there's more then 1 other player in the hand. Not sure how many times you drop 10BB on one hand (I very rarely have a chance to put 10bb in a hand because other people usually aren't that agressive against me unless I'm already beat). However, the once in a while you hit the stone cold and there are several people in with you, you lose 2BB for everybody that is still sitting at the end by not having at least 12BB in front of you...

Somebody smarter can probably explain it better, but the jist is, you only save 2BB by not having it in front of you when you lose, but lose the ability to win 2BB for everybody in the hand when you win.
