aggressor checks the flop at 6-max

Prima Poker skin
Limit Holdem Ring game
Limit: $1.1/$2.2
5 players

Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is Button with [Qc] [8h]
2 folds, Hero raises, SB 3-bets, BB folds, Hero calls.

Buttonsteal and i get 3-bet by a very tight aggressive player.

Flop: [Qs] [Th] [Js] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks

What does the check mean? I could put him on nut straight, set, maybe two pairs or possibly a draw like AT, A9, KT or 99-55. Maybe i should have bet here to see were i stand? (if i could fold if he check/raises)

Turn: [2c] (2 players)
SB bets, Hero calls.

Im unsure what to do when the aggressor checks the flop and bets the brick turn. Is this a fold? I decided to call down.

River: [2h] (2 players)
SB bets, Hero calls.

I will tell you later what he had. I just wonder what range you put him on and how you deal with this hand? This seems to happen quite often against good thinking players. Do you ever play like him... and what do you do it with?

He could be on anything. I think he was afraid of the flop and checked to you. When you checked he figured his piece is good so he bet. As played I probably call down, but I would have fired the flop. You have top pr and a gutterball. If he cr's u I would call down. I doubt a Tight aggressive would slow play AK on the flop after 3-betting heads up.

I dont think u can ever fold heads up here.

Tight aggressive players who defend like that and then check the flop make me suspicious. I think a lot of times it means they've hit a monster and are hoping you either caught a piece or try to take a stab and are looking to set up for a CR.

One think that is important, and I think Derf mentioned this before the when you're delaing with blind steals or defenses it can be heavily read dependant.. It also has a lot to do with what's been happening at the table.... For example, how often is someone raising their button? How often is someone playing back? What hands have been shown down? There's quite a few things to be considered in situations like this... If you're constanly raising your button (and I'm in the SB) I would probably open up my 3 bettng requirements against a habitual button raiser.

As it stands here he can have anything, if he really is a TAG over a good sample he could have AK here, AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT without even having to think about it.. They'd easily fit a TAG's 3 betting range if he's playing a straightfoward TAG game. COuld also be playing AQ, AJ, 2 broadway cards... I mean there's a lot of possibilites and that 's an action flop, but a TAG 3 betting and then checking the flop raises some suspicion to me. It makes me think he's looking to CR.

HU I don't think we can fold this, the way you played it saves the most behind and probably wins the most if he's just making a play.

Eh, im sorry marm i dont feel i can fold getting 6:1 and why would i cap (hes 3-betting range is pretty strong) and i feel i have to hit a very good flop to continue. Also if i fold against a 3-bet he will start 3-betting with a lot of shit.

A standard thinking aggressor that 3-bets and checks the flop heads up have either a very marginal hand (like an underpair or a weak draw) or a monster in my opinion.

He had TT by the way and he flopped a set. Actually i thought a set was less likely because he should be cautious not to give free cards on that drawy board. Thats why i was more likely to believe ha had a marginal hand or a straight.

Marm brings up a good point about betting the flop. I think this opponent was going for a check/raise. If you call down to a check/raise i fail to see how you save money. If you can fold then betting the flop is a good idea.

I took a passive line. But i feel like i still gave him to much action after that 3-bet/check and thats why i posted. Any more input is more then welcome... Could anyone fold this hand on turn? (or maybe bet flop and fold to a raise?)
