what the hell just happened? yes, thats right, he called on the flop needing running hearts, or a 6 and 8 to fill the 2 card gutshot and then went all in on the river with a 4 outer. i think this hand is going to give me nightmares - i'm not sure if i'll be able to sleep. just the worst in a sereis of terrible beats this week and i needed to vent.

what could i have done differently in this situation? the only reasonable hand i was worried about in this situation would be a set, but i'd be able to deal with that. this is one that i'm finding a little hard to choke down. the only thing i think i could have done differently would be to raise more preflop, but this guys seemed to be on a mission to give me all his money. what do you guys think?

This guy will lose all his money and I promise you that he has to reload his account on a regular basis. I would be stalking him and joining any table hes at.
The fact that this play worked means he'll continue to do it. Just make sure youre there when he does.

Did he not have a flush draw on the flop? Not that that makes his play much better, merely that he did at least have a hand all the way. As far as I can see, you did not bet enough at any point to move him off his flush draw. On the flop he has to call $17 into a pot that's going to be over $80. On the turn he obviously shouldn't have bet out, but perhaps he was trying to get to see the river cheaply in the knowledge that he's virtually pot committed anyhow. He has 12 clean outs (plus 3 outs to a split), giving him better than a 25% chance of winning on the river (his pot equity on the turn is not far off 30% in fact), and has to call a final bet of about $40 into a $200+ pot.

Your preflop raise has him calling 3x BB from the BB; I think a lot of players would call a suited connector from here, knowing that he can take your stack if he hits (though with the small party blinds this is less correct). He chances his arm with a pretty poor bet on the flop in case you have AK, then you don't bet enough to take him off his draw. He makes a poor lead on the turn, perhaps trying to defend his draw (that was his worst play, I think) and then calls with odds to catch his draw. I think his only really bad plays were the leads on the flop and the turn, and in the great scheme of things these were not as abysmal as some plays you'll see on the $100 tables and above.

You made one mistake that was easily as bad as any he made - your weedy raise on the flop. If you were prepared to get all in on this hand you should have just raised the pot and not worried about getting pot committed. Perhaps he would have folded and you wouldn't have been posting this hand.

Not only was he only gutshot, he was *double* gutshot. The flop was 7-4-3 guys. The only way he could win was by hitting 2 running cards that either matched his hole cards or make the straight.

Anyways, Monk is dead on with his comment about your flop raise, which was terribly weak.

Yeah, i'm getting my diamonds and hearts confused :D disregard that.

The comments about the weakness of the flop raise are still valid however. Otherwise, yes your opponent was a total goon, lol.
