QQ against multiple draws

Postby legendary loser » Sat Dec 18, 2004 5:32 pm

I just played through this hand. Suggestions appreciated.

Im at a $25 Party NL table. I have $26 or so and I'm dealt QQ in LP. There's 5-6 limpers. I raise to $3 and it is called by two players, both who I know are very loose and will call almost any bet. The flop is 5c6d7d. The flop is "ok" but there are a lot of draws. The pot is nearly $12 and I have $23 left. I'm almost sure I'm ahead and I know they will call if they are on a draw. I go all in for $23. First player calls w/ 53d. He wins with two pair/flush.

I never like going all in like that when the all in is double the pot. You'll only get called when you are behind. (in this case he was about even money so he was correct to call)

He was risking $23 to win $35 when hes even money. Of course his preflop call sucks but nothing you can do about that. You'll make money off him in the long run.

Hands like this is the biggest problem with the short stacks at Party. If you bet pot, you only have enough to bet 1/3 pot at the turn so hes going to see the river very cheaply.

I know this play is kind of weak, but after 5 or 6 limpers at a 10 handed table you are about 2 off the button? I know it sucks, but at Party Poker you are probably better off here or making a huge raise preflop. Not 6x the BB, more like making it $10 to go. Basically you either blast them out of the pot preflop with a $10 bet or pushing all in (going all in you are obviously in trouble if somebody wakes up with a hand) or you limp to try and manipulate the pot size (keep it small) so that you can blast them out of the pot with your solid position on the flop. If I had limped with Q-Q here I would find it very easy to fold on a flop that coordinated instead of having to pot commit myself with any bet I make. I am just suggesting this at Party Poker, where there are so many fish and you only have 50BB, at other sites you could play it more like you did.

I definetely thought about over betting the pot, but more around the lines of $5, in which case I probably would have still gotten multiple callers. Perhaps the $10 raise is the better play, but I don't like to bet 40% of my stack and then have to fold to an Ace or King being bet into me.
