Over the course of my time here, many people have asked me questions about Alaska and concluded with "Oh man, that sounds awesome, I have always wanted to go to Alaska."
BTP, this is your chance.
I was laying out my vacation schedule for next year and decided that I am going to take a week off every summer and just bum around Alaska. My cousin came up this year and I took a week off while he was here and it was a very good time.
I was talking to someone (Mac?) the other night and realized that part of the problem for the, eherm, more experienced BTPers (the ones with jobs and wives and mortgages and such), was that they really need to do planning for something like this a ways in advance to get it on their schedule/permission from the wife.
Here is my thinking.
The prime time to be here in June-August. Ideally, one would spend a week here, which would give you a chance to spend a day relaxing after the flight and then several days in a couple different parts of the state. I also have access to a cabin or two (depending on the size of the party) and I know a guy who knows a guy who owns a cabin (well two, with a bunkhouse and a not tub) that I can rent for not much, considering it can hold 20+ people.
Basically what I am proposing is setting a week where as many of you who have told me "Oh I always wanted to go to Alaska" or "Alaska sounds awesome" or "Send me some fish" come up here at the same time and check it out. If there is something in particular you want to do, besides the hiking, fishing, sitting around a campfire, fishing, and other sweet random shit, there is a 99% chance I can set up ahead of time. I assume that there are folks who will want to go walk on glaciers, or folks who will want to take a half day flight and fly around and land on Denali, or whatever.
If you are interested, lets talk dates. The sooner a date is set, the more people will be involved, as they will have time to set up whatever they need to (cheap flight, time off work, not having their second child being born right in the middle of king season (WTG ED!)). Also the sooner we have a date, the sooner I can set up cabins, halibut charters, flightseeing, bear viewing, whatever.
Post here and once we have an idea who may be in, we will get something going via email.
This is just off the top of my photobucket, but here are a few:
