Xaston bring up a really good point in here that believe is one of the most misunderstood things for all poker players not just new players. When we make some hands and win at a nice win rate for a short period of time we think the game is easy, even without really understanding what really is the root cause of our winnign streak. When I first started playing poker seriously 5 years ago Mitcheze and I were playing at our local card room. He is the button and calls a raise with [Ah] [Th] the flop comes [Kh] [Qh] [Jh]. Its 3/6 so there are 6+ players to a flop even in a raised pot. The board ends up paring on the turn some guy two guys made a full house's, it capped the turn 4 ways and the river 3 ways. He ends up winning a $300+ pot in a 3/6 game. We left the casino and he was saying the same thing, the other players are awful, the game is easy. Well in the next 3 months he donated almost 3k to this "easy" game. When you run hot it makes poker feel very easy, it doesnt matter who you are playing against. Look at players like Chris Moneymaker, Robert Varkonyi, Jamie Gold, these guys beats fields of players that were significantly better than they were and won WSOP ME, running hot is nice. This running hot concept is especially hard to understand for a newer player, since new players don't have the experience of millions of hands to fall back on. When new players run hot it just feels like this is the way the game plays and it will always be this easy, read the journals of any of the top players on this site to know that nothing in poker is that easy. Playing live poker its a frequent phenomenon, an inexperienced player runs hot and builds a big stack, usually they start to think the game is easy and they usually lose it all. They often leave frustrated about how unlucky they were at the end, when the truth is their chances to win in the game were really small from the beginning. This is actually what causes a lot of new players to lose a big chunk of money when they first start. The run of good cards makes them think that they can win if only they didn't get so unlucky to lose it all. So they keep playing and buying in hoping to find that running good magic, even though they don't have the skills to beat the game long run.

As Xaston said I am not saying this to be mean. I am trying to warn you about some of the traps that almost all of have fallen into at some point in our poker lives. You might be good enough right now to beat 1/2 heads up right now I don't know, but before you think any game is easy you need to understand if you are simply running hot or if the other players are making mistakes which accounts for your success. The funny thing is even experienced players do this. For some reason I tend to run hot when I start a new game. When I started playing PLO I kept saying how easy it was. Well when you flop top set and the nut flush draw against an overpair and smaller flush draw a few times it makes the game really easy.

I really suggest sticking to small stakes full ring or 6 max, this really is the best way to get your bearings and get the solid foundation you are going to need to win in the long run. Post hands if you have questions, if you don't get the answers you are looking for there is an AIM list. Pretty much all the experienced players on there Xaston, Ice, Godlikeroy, Myself, 12er, H2T are all happy to answer question if you give them a hand history.

Wow I really just wrote a book.

Thank you guys for giving me sound advice. I'm starting to see the truth in all of this. I just made a big run winning all night at 1/2 head up. I think that i am winning large pots because of my inexperience and can see my butt handed to me in the near horizon. Even though i am up in a big way. I realized that i can't even say that i can beat a .05/.1 nl sixhanded table. That is why i am going to stop playing 1/2 until i can win at the micro games because each time i buy in its like 10% of my bankroll. I'm going to hold off on the heads up untill i can beat the micro games. I know its a lot slower but its a lot less volitile. Also i am going to play more tourneys because i think i'm good in those too. lol so many ways to win and so many ways to blow my bankroll. I'm going to follow your advice and play it slow until i can move up to the big leagues.

Bankroll: $630
