Another SNG scenario (this is gettin ridiculous)...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Sun Jun 12, 2005 5:13 pm

Okay... playing a LOT more SNGs than normal, I'm coming into a million scenarios I don't know what the hell to do in (as you can see by my 1000 threads in the last couple days)... This scenario is a little like one of the others I posted, but is a little more drastic, and I'm not sure if the advice would be the same...

$50SNG at UB... We're at hand 33... And I'm ALREADY ON THE BUBBLE...!!!!!!!!!! This is nucking futs... One interesting hand to get it that way...

MP (the eventual Large Stack), raises 120 ... LP pushes for 1300... BB pushes for 1300... MP types "what the hell" and calls...

MP shows [7d] [7c] ...
LP shows [10d] [10c] ...
BB shows [10s] [10h] ...

So, of course, MP hits his one-outer on the flop (I folded K7)... I don't know if I've ever seen a 1 outer beat 2 no-outers, when they were both ahead PF... Kinda cool...

Anyways... So the problem is that there wasn't one BIG BIG stack... instead, there were 3 stacks of 4500 each, with me having the last 1500...

Now, they wouldn't play with each other, and every time I limped w/ something (or even raised) in LP with like [Ad] [Jd] or [7s] [7h] ... basically something I wanna play in LP, but not put all my money in, one of them would raise me allin, and I'd have to fold...

I understood the whole "wait it out and still play tight" deal, but the blinds were hitting me every 3 hands, and I couldn't get a freakin break... It DEFINITELY seemed like they were just waiting it out for me to blind myself to death...

Is there any particular strategy for this situation, or just push when you get a good hand and hope you double up to get in the game...?

fla... that's what I was doing for a while... I heard you, like Yoda, saying in the back of my mind "tighten up... tighten up... wait for a monster... no rush..."... When the 4-way started, the blinds were 20-40 and I had about 1500 chips... so, if the blinds are taking away 60 chips every 4 hands... I'm getting eaten up pretty quick... Plus, after about 5 minutes, the blinds went to 30-60, and I really couldn't catch a hand... Example... I would get 77 in the BB, raise 3x, get pushed allin... and I'd fold... It was killing me... I think I'm just gonna try the whole "push or bust" theory...

Alex... I don't have a problem w/ pushing pairs or good hands when I'm ITM... The problem was I wasn't in the money yet...

Sorry to hijack my own thread, but I'm playing another game w/ the EXACT OPPOSITE scenario...

Okay.. now this is getting weird... I'm now on hand 41, and ALL 10 PEOPLE ARE STILL IN THE HAND... The blinds are about to go to 50/100, and I'm the 2nd to big stack... Wish me luck...

Hand 67... THERE ARE 8 PLAYERS IN THE GAME... AM I SUPPOSED TO BE STEALING AGAINST 7 OTHER PLAYERS IN... SHOULD I BE PUSHING POCKET 5s OR 7s...???? Man, just when you think you figure these things out...

Did I mention.... GODDAMN I'm good... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Even if Flafishy thinks I'm the suckout king... I actually won the freakin thing... Survived a few allins... Gotta post my last hand, mostly as a bragging thing...

Me and the guy were talkin back and forth... Real friendly-like... He kept showing his cards... He was a pretty weak headsup player (ie... calling instead of raising, folding to a LOT of bluffs when a scare card falls...) ... Anyways, here goes...

I have 11500, he has about 3500... he calls, I have [10s] [6d] ...

FLOP, a pretty sweet [10h] [10d] [6c] ... he checks, I check...

TURN... [Ah] ... he checks... He's seen me check-raise like 100 times when a scare card falls... I think he's gonna try it... I minbet 400... He instantly pushes... I call, he's got A8...

A "gg" from him, and I'm $250 richer... SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!! :D :D :D

MVP, in response to your first scenerio:

If they're really playing like you're saying, then the best move once you get a monster hand would be to limp with it to induce someone to raise you. you'd be more likely to get called by bad hands that way. But yeah, definitely keep playing tight

I don't play SNG's at all these days so I might not be really qualified to answer this question but I did USED to play them almost exclusively. And I always found myself in a situation like this, but not quite. It would be the same idea except I would be the second short stack with 4 left, not desperate, but really wanting to get it down to 3 so that I could really play. And then the big stacks would feel some compulsion to push the shortstack and/or call his all-in with ANYTHING, doubling him up over and over again to the point that he had been doubled through enough times and the blinds had gotten high enough that I was now the short, desperate stack. So basically what I'm saying is that if YOU are the shortstack when it gets 4 handed, don't give the other guys too much credit, they want you gone, but you don't threaten their existence, so basically I'm thinking I might take your AJs and I'd probly play for my stack for all the mid pairs on up.
