Uhg, I think I made a bad play. What do you think?

It's early, 10-handed at a Party $100 SNG. I'm in the big blind with KK. Blinds 10/15. 3 limpers, and the SB raises it to 80. I make it 350, and only the SB calls.

Flop: (pot size 800 or so)

SB leads out for 150. LOL, wierd huh? I've never seen this guy before, so I dont know what to think. I call, since there's no draw out there. The turn is a blank, and the guy checks. I decided to go all in.

That might have been a mistake. The guy thought for a while and called with AJs, and took me out.

What do you guys think? Do you agree that this was a terrible play on my part? What if I was playing $10s instead of $100s??

As long as he keeps the check/min bet mode going, I am in check call mode all the way...As you know Nash, I don't play the 100's...I guess it worked for him this time but....

Nash... I don't play on Party much, and I don't remember how many chips they give you to start... I know they give 1000 for the $50SNGs... It would help to give advice to know stack sizes... I'm going to assume for this post that its 1000 also...

Anyway, that aside... I wouldn't raise QUITE so much PF... Maybe if someone had raised 80 and already had 2 callers, it would be fine... But, that's not the case... More likely, some bozo in EP limped w/ crapola, and 2 LP players are playing "position", or some other such crap... So, when the SB raises, you have to assume that all 3 aren't gonna stay in the hand... Ideally, you want to isolate w/ the SB and pray to GOD he doesn't have Aces... You gotta be careful that, if he has Jacks or Queens, though, you don't chase him... That was a VERY long-winded way of saying that I think you should've raised closer to 3x his bet, which would be 240.. That way, if an Ace flops, you can get away relatively cheaply...

On the flop... the dreaded Ace hits... he bets 150, which is a shitty little bet, but it's still enough that, if you call, you have 1/2 of your chips in the pot... This is, in my opinion, getting VERY close to an allin or fold situation... And, early in the tourney, where these idiots LOVE playing Ace/anything, I'd probably fold... Normally, I would like to raise here, but you're basically putting all your chips in w/almost anything that you do...

Lets look at it a little closer if you had raised a little less PF... He calls the 240... that leaves you w/ 760 each (I'm assuming you both have full stacks)... He bets 150 into a pot of ~500, which is still showing weakness, and you could minraise to 300, leaving you w/ 460 (which is still iffy...)... If he calls or raises, you're done... Then, you're down to about half your chips, and have an uphill climb... I don't especially like this play either, but the lower raise PF gives you a LITTLE more flexibility...

Honestly, I think folding to his bet on the flop is your best option... I can't see anyone calling that allin w/out an Ace, and I really think that the people at these SNGs would've checked to you as the PF raiser if he didn't have an ace... I think you're only shot to win this hand was to push the flop and pray...

I don't think it is that bad. Clearly the player calling your reraise with AJ is making the mistake not you.
He got lucky and hit his 3-outer ( everybody seems to hit this week ).
Don't know about the level at the $100 but I often went all-in at the first stage with KK and AA preflop on party. You want a call by AJ then and so they often did.

Ok the flop is terrible ofcourse. That 150 shows weakness to me. I would have him on JJ or something. I think most of the time I would go for the all in here.
By calling he now thinks your weak and his AJ is good.

In most of the times I would not have been around anymore for the turn to come it would have been settled before that.

He just got lucky calling 33% of his stack with AJ early. Make a note and move on.

You're a much better player than me but I guess I feel a little different.

I don't see a problem with the T350 bet. You could have gone all in but with KK you are looking for callers. The flop scares me. With his call on your T350 I have to include AKs, AQs in the range of hands he might have (AJs not so much). I guess he was probing for stregnth with the T150 bet, that's all I can figure. You just called this smallish raise so I guess at this point he thinks AJ is good. Maybe at that point you reraise and put the pressure back on him and if he calls your reraise or puts you all in, you still have some chips to play with
