Prof--
Well, i have many times posted about it, but Im gonna hafta plug the Commerce once again. YOu wont find action better anywhere in the continental US that ive ever seen. The games there play about a decimal point to the left of the usual - as in, 40/80 plays like 4/8, etc. Its truly an amazing spectacle. In addition to that its got hundreds of tables, decent food thats comped if you play 15/30+ or 500buyin NL+. The Bicycle Casino is pretty good too, but id say if your gonna play anwhere, play the Commerce, people dont call it the poker capital of the world for nothing.
As for the rooms id stay away from- well, Normandie and Hollywood park are Ghett-O, with a capital G- the type of places you wouldnt want to walk out of with a decent sized roll. The play there is very bad, but food is terrible, the people are either spending drug money or thier welfare checks (that oughta give you a hint as to how the people are) and i hever never seen them spread anything higher than 10-20.
The Indian Casinos I find are very hit and miss -Pechanga, Morongo, etc- sometimes have ok games, sometimes are rock gardens- They will be closer to you probly but id say its def worth the LA drive. After all, if you get too tired to drive home, the commerce is a pretty nice hotel, and the degenerate rate is $99/night, which isnt bad considering how nice the rooms are, and the fact that ive come up with a system whereby i can raid the minibar and not pay for it
Have fun in SoCal.
