I've always found Hoegaarden very thin tasting and having a funny mouthfeel. It doesn't really have that buttery/banana-y flavour you seem to get with really good beers of that style and there's a strange metallic taste to it that I don't like, but I can see why people go for it. Personal taste I know but I think there's better out there.
Sham, I think Bluebird is a very good beer (prob the best english one on there like I said) but it might not travel well. It's quite bitter, smooth and will be less sweet than most on the menu. Probably an acquired taste, so don't necessarily expect to think it's great. There's plenty of Belgian and German beers (and US ones too) on there that I prefer personally anyhow.
