Bad Beat contest

Postby iceman5 » Tue Dec 21, 2004 4:06 pm

I dont believe in worrying about bad beats which is why there is no "bad beat" section here to post your horror stories.....BUT....I had an idea after this hand I played this morning

MP limps. I limp in MP with 22. BB raises to $3 we both call.
Pot $9. Flop J52. BB bets $9, MP folds, I raise to $18. BB goes all in for a total of $37. I call.
He has KJ.....turn K....river J.....I lost to higher full house.
I ran the numbers and I was slightly more than a 50-1 favorite.

Heres the idea....I would like to have a contest for the worst bad beat. If youve played a hand where you were a bigger than 50-1 favorite when the money went all in, let me know. Off the top of my head, I cant think of any scenarios where thats even possible although Im sure it probably is.

I know there are NO preflop scenarios that are this big a favorite. Anyone have a "all in on the flop" that beats this one? Of course you have to lose for it to count.

Yeah, thats hard to beat. At least that guy had 2 pair when he went all in. His play is actually pretty good. My guy just had top pair with a king kicker.

Nope, that was real life. I dont think it counts for the contest because I was all in vs a 1 outter which is about 50:1. It was a good thing I was up a lot that day, if it was one of those bad days I might have lost it. I calculated the odds of runner runner quads to be 1250:1. Thought the chances of having this happen is probably astronimical when you consider how many times you flop quads and of those times you flop quads how often someone has a higher pocket pair than your quads after the flop. Probably in the millions somewhere.

I read your bad beats section and I I'd much rather be beat by runner runner quads than what happened with you. Thats some scary stuff.

The worst bad beat story I've ever heard involved trip aces all-in against pocket deuces, and running deuces hitting the board. I didn't personally witness the hand though, so I take it with a grain of salt.

All of my really really bad beats are in pot limit stud.... But I've managed to get quads twice in a row on fifth street, and lose both of them, to running quads and 9-K straight flush. Don't have any idea about the odds though. My worst hold'em beat was running quads over my Ace high flush.

I lost a hand yesterday to a one outer yesterday which I would like to share with you all. It was in a SnG and there were four players left. Blinds were at 100/200 and I was in the small blind. I was dealt [Ts] [7s] . First two players folded and I just called to see a flop. Probably a mistake, I should've been raising to steal the blind. Anyway he calls and flop comes down [As] [3s] [Td] . Good flop for me, flush draw and middle pair. I bet and was called. The turn was [2s] . Great I've made my flush. I lead out and bet and was raised, so all my chips went in and I was called. He turns over [8s] [5s] . He's dead to one out, the [4s] to give him the straight flush, which duly obliges on the river.

I must admit when the chips slid over to him I initially thought there was a bug in Party's software. Things tend to take a while to sink into my brain but I soon realised what had happened. I never get angry or annoyed when bad things happen to me in poker because I know the good times far outweigh them. You see many other players start abusing the chat feature in this kind of instance and start calling peoples mothers funny names, and, I must admit I did reach for my keyboard and typed "Merry Christmas" and then duly left the table so the others could continue their game.

Okay, this happened last week in a MTT, final table.
I hold 5h 5c - flop 5s 4s 2s. I bet, opponent raised and I went all in and was called.
Opponent showed 4h 4d. At this point I win 88.08% of time she wins 4.34% of time and we tie 7.58%. Turn was Ad (now she has 1 and only one out), yep the 4c hit on the river. I'm out in ninth place. :x
