Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

Funny Story Time!

mood: :)

Last night I decided to play some 2/5 at the Venetian with the woman. I haven't played a live game in a while and it's nice to get out. We start out at a must move, where on my last hand on the button I suffer a 3 outer on the river in a 3-way $800 pot. Lovely!

Anyway, we both move to a different table sitting next to each other. Before I go deep into this, let me state how she plays. Shes an "ok" player who can beat a table with a couple of donkeys. She doesn't truly understand pot odds or the "long run." Shes probably made a little bit lifetime, though not much. She also thinks everyone in trying to run a bluff on her....

So she gets A7 suited in the sb. Bunch of limpers. She comes along and the BB raps. The flop is AT3 including a flush draw she doesn't have. She leads $25 into the field. A familiar looking older, kinda fat guy raises to $75. He's wearing a 2+2 t-shirt. Hmmmm. Anyway.. Christina thinks for a while and calls the extra $50 whispering to herself that he has a flush draw.

TURN
[Ad][Tc][2c] [Ks]

She checks. He bets again, this time $150. I look at him for a time....then go... HOLY SHIT! It's Mason Malmuth!! My immediate thought after that was FOLD, FOLD, FOLD!!!! He's not bluffing you girl, lol... never, not you. Then my second thought, which occured quickly after my first thought was.... Why the hell is Mason Malmuth playing 2/5NL ?

She pushed for a little bit more and lost to A2 suited.

-------
On another Mason Malmuth note, didn't realize him and Ed Miller had a parting of ways! Go Ed's wife; I think we know who wears the pants in that relationship! heh.

Things are Going Well...

mood: content

I'm happy with my hours, I'm happy with my play, and I'm happy with my earnings. I have no room to complain. I've seen a lot of variance over the past two weeks. Some sessions I'll win or lose $2500 at 2/4NL, which I think is pretty crazy.

My game isn't flawless by any means, but it's winning. I have some mistakes that could be exploited but none of the regulars seem to be stepping up to the plate. I'm working on it though.

I'm reading the Mathematics of poker by Bill Chen. Tough book to comprehend, certainly not light reading. It's good though. I like to challenge myself. I need to improve my math skills. I want to understand some of the nuances of why mathematically I win with certain plays and etc.

I'm still watching some Cardrunners videos every once in a while. Though they seem to be repeating the same stuff most of the time, it's still a good refresher. I go astray with my game occasionally and it's good to watch someone else for a change.

I'm more determined to be a big winner than I have been in a long time. I feel that I've wasted my earlier opportunites. Being lazy in such a profitable situation (that probably will not last forever) it's stupid. I admit I can't play something like 40 hours a week without some serious tilt issues, but 100 is doable for me.

So that's my goal for June. Get it up to 100 hours. I plan to do a little over 80 in April, a llittle over 90 in May, and 100 in June. I could reap some serious profits and rakeback with those kind of hours.

So that's really all thats been on my mind lately. I want to be a big winner, one of the best. I can't be lazy anymore.

Just thought I'd check in here and see what you were up to since you don't post much in the main forum. Glad it's going well, but I still don't understand why you're not hammering the 2/5 at the Wynn or, given bankroll, moving to 5/10 or 10/20 at the Bellagio. That 10/20 is very beatable if you've got the roll imho--and I really think you're a better live player than I am, maybe a little loose and hence maybe too prone to tilt due to the additional stress of playing looser ... (?).

Kenny, one other thing, since I noticed you're reading MOP (which I don't have): Do they do any game theory other than the [0,1] game?

I picked that one up on 2+2 and feel like I understand it. And dropthe72 asked me to explain some game theory, which I'm trying to do in the NLHE forum. So, I'm trying to explain how that game works.

Ankenman often has a somewhat difficult way of explaining it (to my mind anyway), at least he did on the board, possibly because it's so routine for him that he doesn't have to go through a lot of the steps that one initially has to think through thoroughly. Don't know whether he and Chen walk one through it more clearly in the book, though.

Anyhow, if you'd chime in in my game theory stuff on the main board with anything I'm missing, I'd really appreciate it.

Also looking at the stuff you're working on, I think 80 hours monthly is actually extremely strong 8-tabling at high stakes. Online is really MUCH more stressful per hour played.

However, as I read the "I would like to be one of the best" statement, I really think the best way to do that is casino play. You have more time to think about each hand and more information on your opponents. Also, while I start to get pretty antsy after even 2 hours online at a stretch, I can pretty easily run 12 hours straight at the casino and do that 4 days a week (admittedly, life in general starts to get behind if I do that for very long).
