Few Spots From Coaching

Postby DoctorHandles » Thu Apr 03, 2008 10:17 pm

We have next to no reads here always.

Spot #1)

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (6 handed) Converter Tool from (Format: Bet The Pot)

Hero ($99.50)
SB ($105.40)
BB ($103.05)
UTG ($82.70)
MP ($186.05)
CO ($109)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [Td], [Qs].
1 fold, MP calls $1, CO calls $1, Hero raises to $6, 2 folds, MP folds, CO calls $5.

Flop: ($14.50) [8s], [9c], [7c] (2 players)
CO bets $6, Hero calls $6.

Turn: ($26.50) [Qd] (2 players)
CO bets $15, Hero raises to ???

What is a good raise size here?

Hand #2)

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (5 handed) Converter Tool from (Format: Bet The Pot)

Hero ($93.50)
Button ($100)
SB ($157.35)
BB ($68.20)
UTG ($109.70)

Preflop: Hero is MP with [3d], [4d].
1 fold, Hero raises to $4, 1 fold, SB calls $3.50, BB calls $3.

Flop: ($12) [Js], [Tc], [Kh] (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $8.5

Is this CB standard?

Hand #3)

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (5 handed) Converter Tool from (Format: Bet The Pot)

Hero ($158.45)
UTG ($141.20)
MP ($71.95)
Button ($258.55)
SB ($85.25)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Ah], [Qs].
UTG raises to $4, 3 folds, Hero calls $3.

Flop: ($8.50) [9d], [Td], [Qc] (2 players)
Hero bets $6.5

Is this a clear flop lead?

I think my coach is right on the last two (and wrong on the first I'll have to see what amount you guys think), just wanted this confirmed.

1: Why are we turning our hand into a bluff by raising the turn? Just call again.

2: No. You'll end up inflating the pot OOP with a marginally strong hand...you'll get to the turn with no idea what to do. Just ch/call and evaluate turn.

Hand 1

He thinks you missed the flop or/and will not have the guts to call a big river bet. He doesn't need to be a good player to know that your hand, most probably, is in a way ahead -way behind situation. So why is he milking you ? To know where he is at ?

Your flop check may be a good move against a regular you know but against a unknown you lost a good opportunity to clarify the situation.

The standard $45 will lead you to a tough river situation too often to be profitable. A shove needs some reads to be ok.

A miniraise will either buy a way out or a cheap showdown. It may be the best solution.

:?

2} I dont know if it is standard but I think that the ev is positive at Poker Stars.

3)Since you are somewhat deep, I dont think that a CR is good so the lead sounds fine but I cant say if it is clearly the best option.

Hand 1: I like what BK said...and I'm still not sure about it. A raise might be the best way to go if villain is the type to keep pushing big draws, to make him pay for them. If he's the type to bet his made hands, I like a call here. With no reads, I think I like a call though. If we raise, bet $40, but I really don't like it if he 3-bet shoves on the turn.

Hand 2: Against two players, I'm not sure I like a bet here, but I see nothing standard about this either...without reads, if it's early in the session, I probably make a CB. Later, it all depends on my image and what I've seen as responses to standard CB's.

Hand 3: I think a C/R on the flop is fine too. Are we 3-betting if we lead here and get raised or calling down? I think I like a bet out here without reads because I think villain will more likely put you on a draw and call down with weaker hands.

to me it looks like hand 1 is a play....I think your not getting credit for a hand there so I say make it like 38-45, get some money in prolly way ahead.

hand 3:. I prolly c/r this like 100% of the time...your gonna get cb alot mainly by the hands your worried about giving a free card too, so I say c/r and if he checks behind lead the turn.

I probably just flat call hand 1 and call a reasonable river

Hand 2 I mostly fold preflop

Hand 3 Check Raise if you're confident of him CBing, otherwise lead out

Hand 1. Maybe raise because of the flush draw but I lean towards a call.

Hand 2. Don't like the CB at all

Hand 3. Don't checkraise a superdrawy flop without much of anything. I would probably just call a street and see what he does on turn, give up to a bet. Problem is there are almost no good cards for you that you can peel off. (Save a Q). I would never lead the flop either.

Personally I think your coach might be right in hand 1 but I dont like the others.

Who is the coach ?

1) I dont like preflop. As played I raise thie flop alot of the time. If I flat called the flop which I almost never do...I shove the turn. I disagree that this is turning your hand into a bluff. Ive heard that phrase and also "he'll only call when he has you beaten" way too many times and Ive gotten called ALOT in spots like this when Im way ahead.

Raptor is now a Cardrunners instructor and is making videos. On his 1st video he says something like ":anytime you can make your opponents head explode, its a good thing". Ive been saying this for a long time and this is the perfect spot to push all in and make him puke.

2) Give up...CB is bad here.

3) Opponent specific. I think a lead or a check / call is fine. I think youre too deep to check raise here, but its not horrible either.
