Went to the casino for some 1/2 last night, and the following situation came up:
I have about 350 in chips and a super-aggro player to my right has 300 for the moment. He's been raising to 12 on AJ constantly, and there will also be usually 4-5 callers. For his raises, I've also seen T8s and big pairs. I'm guessing smaller pairs are in there, too, but I think he may raise these either bigger or smaller. Note that since he's to my right, if I re-raise big hands, I'm only getting his bet if he folds. Also, prior to this hand, I've also seen him re-raise AJ.
He raises anyway, and I look down on T9s and decide to go for a RR, mainly to see how he responds. I make it 40, and now he pushes. I hem and haw around for a long time (I obviously know I'm folding) and convince him that I'm laying down QQ. He shows AJ.
What should my range be the next time I re-raise? Just RR maybe QQ+ and AK and call a shove?
The situation didn't actually come up because someone else with almost a full stack re-raised AA and he again pushed with AJ and it didn't hold up. But this guy does show up once in a while in this game, and it's also interesting to me to know how to deal with players like that for 1.5 buy-ins.
I mention his repeat performance because one thing going through my head was whether he would give it against me the next time I re-raise.
P.S.: When the tables go through short-handed phases, I do think playing online 6max has enormously improved my ability to adapt. The rest of the table often continues playing FR.
