I have AK. Villian is in MP. It's 6-handed at a 6-max table at party, 2/4 I think.

Preflop -- MP raises, I 3 bet, everyone else folds, MP calls.

Flop --
He bets, I raise, he threebets, I cap it.
Turn --
He bets, I raise, he 3-bets, I cap.
River --
He bets, I raise, he 3-bets, I call.

Am I a moron for raising that much? With his confidence preflop, I couldn't put him on A5 or A2 or 22 or 55, and also didn't think he would 3-bet the flop with A8, AT, 88, or TT.

He ended up having A5o. I think I probably was being pretty dumb. When would you guys have stopped betting/raising and gone into check/call mode?

His lack of a cap preflop probably eliminates AA so with his betting you have to put him on some kind of an ace or a set on the flop when he three bets you. After he caps it on the flop and leads again at you on the turn I think you just have to go into check call mode and be prepared to look at A5 or a set.

Personally, I'd call his 3-bet on the flop and then raise the turn; I think in this heads-up situation, your hand is strong enough to be played that way. But if he 3-bets the turn, I go into call mode. Played your way (which is fine, too), I agree with piers that you need to slow down and just call down from the turn on.

Yeah dude, losing 4 bets on every street and only 3 bets on the river is the kind of thing you see when youve got set / set. Id have played it exactly the way TW said to, call the threebet and raise the turn.

Of course if he threebet me, id muckit immediately, knowing i was beaten
