If you want to give your mother the best present possible here is my advice..
write her a letter and tell her all the things about her that you like/love..doesn't matter how silly they are..doesn't matter if she made a lot of mistakes in her life..now is not the time to remind her of those. Tell her some things that will surprise her..something from your youth that you remember was cool, something she cooked for you or still does that you love, a place you traveled to, a talk you had that made a difference. Tell her she is important to you...
If you are going to see her, put it in a card.
If she lives in another state, send her an e-mail.
Forget the flowers and candy, forget the gift card, the plant...
Trust me when I tell you it will be the best present she ever got and she will remember it always.
Don't wait thinking you have time...you might not. My mother died very suddenly when I was 23 ..never had the chance to tell her how I felt about her.
"they tell me you rarely speak in person..I told them that seemed impossible given how funny you are online"
