Was the fix in? Nothing wrong with the horse, yet the jockey pulls up just when he should be kicking it into the next gear?

well Big Brown is worth I'm guessing 50 million if the jockey can keep him alive and if he thought something was seriously wrong with him it is his job to sacrifice this race to keep his horse from being injured....I am sure they must have to test the horse now (BB) I don't think we have heard the end of this story..

If I'm going to pay someone to throw a race, it's not going to be this one. Too much scrutiny from too many people.

A journalist or even a random blogger smelling the possibility of a headline like "THE BELMONT WAS FIXED" will work a lot harder than one where the best option is a brief note about something that took place at the 4th race at Podunk on September 28th.

One of my best friends in a horse trainer and I have spent a fair amount of time around the track.

That horse did not want to run. He didnt want to load in the gate - which is always a bad sign, he broke poorly and he fought the jockey right away. The jockey tried to push the horse out of the turn and the horse didn't respond. The jockey only eased the horse after it was obvious there was no way to even place.

Aside from that, it would take a crap load of money to get a jockey and an owner to throw their chance at a triple crown.

I forgot to mention that the distance of the Belmont stakes is the longest of the triple crown races. The extra distance could have been a factor. The winner does well at long distances when he can get out front and not get sand in his face. BB was also packed wide through the turn which is never good for long races.

Here is an intersting article, says late speed usually fails in the belmont. that is just what Desormeaux tried to do.

The author thought Big Brown would win it though.
