Two Pair on A Flush Draw Board

Postby maxwn917 » Mon Aug 01, 2005 4:01 pm

PokerStars 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (8 handed)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [7s], [2s]. Hero posts a blind of $0.25.
2 folds, MP1 calls, Hero (poster) checks, 2 folds, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (4 SB) [7h], [2c], [5h] (4 players)
SB bets, BB calls, MP1 calls, Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls, MP1 calls.

Turn: (6 BB) [9c] (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB calls, MP1 calls.

River: (10 BB) [Th] (4 players)
SB checks, BB bets, MP1 raises, Hero folds, SB calls, BB calls.

Final Pot: 16 BB

Results in white below:
BB has 3h Jh (flush, jack high).
MP1 has 8c Jc (straight, jack high).
SB has 5s 5c (three of a kind, fives).
Outcome: BB wins 16 BB.

This was the first hand I played at the table, woke up in a late blind to flop two pair. Although looking over it now, I wasn't that late, and I can't figure out why i decided to post the blind then, but whatever. My main question is whether I should have checked behind the field on the turn. Obviously with three callers on the flop, someone has the flush draw. He's also probably not folding to one more bb. So should I have checked behind on the turn, with the intention of folding if the flush completes and betting or raising if the flush misses and the board doesn't pair? I'm almost positive that If I checked on the turn, one of them would have bet into me on the river, sensing weakness, so that might have gotten me an extra big bet or two, plus I would have saved a bet when the flush hits. On the other hand, there are still a lot of cards that could beat me on the river, so it might be a mistake to check on the river. Turns out I was losing the whole way to a set of fives, but the way he played it, I don't think anyone is gonna have a set most of the time, so I'm not gonna worry too much about that. Most of the time, I think my two pair are good until that flush hits. Thoughts?

I think you played it fine with one exception.....don't post from MP. Either wait for you bb or do it right after the button passes and you are in the CO. I play it the same way otherwise. You can't check behind on that turn as you likely have the best hand and can't believe that someone with a set waited so long to raise. Note that because he will slowplay himself out of a lot of money.
