I'm on Pacific, and I'm playing HE NL SNG 5 player tournament. Only 1st pays out. A couple of people knock themselves out early, and I slowly eat away at the big stack and eventually knock out the 3rd guy.
By now, I have a dominate chiplead with 3600 to 800. The other player is passive but tight. Only first pays out, so I feel pretty confident I can win. All I need to do is corner him in. When I play heads up, I get aggressive, expecially with face cards. I also pay attention to raises, and I'm not afraid to just fold my sb if I don't like my cards. I prefer to have a strong hand going in.
Anyways, to make a long story short, I get him down to 200, and he's about to be blinded out. He beats my KJo with his 79 pairing the 7 on the river to double up. Next hand, I have AKs hearts, and he pushes all in. I call, and dispite making a flush, the board shows trip Qs to help his pocket 8s.
Of course, I'm not worried, and I eventually eat him down to 300... and he would survive the all in.
This happened about 5 times where he would get up to about 1000, lose down to where he was at my mercy, and manage to luck out. This continued for about 15 minutes (a long time online), as the blinds got bigger and bigger. As time went on, he started getting more and more aggressive since he seemed to have lady luck on his side, and I decided to call him on it with AQ all in preflop. nope, lose to J6 pair of sixes. I lost this tournament.
I felt like I should of gotten first place. What do you suggest when you're an overwhelming chip favorite but can't seem to kill the last guy? Should you just go all in on random cards? I felt like I played this game really well, and just was unlucky... in short I felt like Phill Hellsmuth when Annie Duke beat him in that ESPN Tournament of Champions.
