Interesting stats ice. Always intriguing to see what's going on over here.

Would you mind if I ask you, what are you autorated as?
(Using excession's rules?)

I know you say you're weak tight, but is that what the autorate rules think?

Just curious. Good luck to your cards!

As I said before, I was going to play $1/$2 6 max when I couldnt get any $5/$10 tables. This isnt part of the staking deal.

Im still not sure of my strategy for this yet, but so far after 700 hands my win rate is 35.72 PTBBs. Yes thats PTBBs. 71.44 actual BBs / 100 hands.

Obviously that wont continue, but it does seem that win rates could be higher here. Mistakes are magnified and people will play for their stack with TP avg kicker.

I busted 2 guys with a set of 6s on a J638 board. They had KJ and QJ. $505 pot in a $200 table. Sweet!

I havent played any $5/$10 today as there were no full ring games available this morning. I have a party at my house tonight for a friend who got promoted so I may not play much if any tonight.

I got in about 150 $5/$10 hands this morning. I picked up $600 all on one hand where I flopped a set of 6s against AA. I didnt have any other eventful hands. I was down about $200 at one point, got that back and then hit the set just before I was about to quit so it was a nice short session.

My son starts school tomorrow so I'll have the entire mornings to myself up until I go to work in the afternoon. I should be able to get more hands in during the next couple weeks. Lets hope thats a good thing.

On the 6 max front, Im continuing my early success. I now have almost 1000 hands and Im at 40.48 PTBBs. Amazing. Thats $241.50 / hr playing 2 tables of $1/$2. LOL.

Im really starting to wonder what my true win rate will be at 6 max. For the time being, Im going to continue playing 6 max when I cant get at least 2 $5/$10 tables. After another 1000 hands or so, If Im still doing well, I will move to $2/$4 6 max. I think this will also be good for switching gears and playing LAGgy now and then at full ring. Im over 14% preflop raises at 6 max.

There are players to watch out for at 1/2 Prima 6 max. Some of them are tough because they bet well others tough because of their hand selection. Try hard to get everyone on the win a little or lose a lot strategy. I can almost assure you that win rate isn't sustainable.

"win a little or lose a lot strategy"

i kind of know what you're talking about here (seen it happen), but could you explain this phenomenon a bit more (e.g., what it is and how to induce it)?

I played very well today. I won about $600 this morning in a short session and then was up about $1800 or so this evening after an hour.....and then this happened. There are no words to descibe it so Im not going to even try. Just soak it in. We both have double stacks.

EP limps, villian limps, I limp on the button with [Kc][Qc]. Blinds both play.

Pot is $50. Flop comes [Jd][Tc][8c]. I have a str8 draw and flush draw. EP bets $10, villain raises to $60. The stacks are too big for me too push this real hard so I just call. EP folds.

Pot is $180. The turn is the [Ah]. He bets $150, I raise to $400. He pushes ALL IN to $1950. I have him covered. I have the nut straight with a redraw to the 2nd nut flush. I call obviously.

Pot is $4080. The river is a J and he boats up on me. He has 88. Biggest pot of my life and its a suck out for a double stack.

Im in shock still and had to turn off the computer even though the games were juicier than Ive ever seen them.

I played 269 hands today and won $539. The stake is down $1138.75.

How I win with luck like this is beyond me. I'll let you do the math as to where the stake would be if this crap didnt happen.

You did well not to vomit on the keyboard and then stick your head through the monitor, that is an absolute shocker.

You can't do any better than have someone raise you all in when you have the nuts, this isn't omaha after all.

Iceman ---

Glad to see that you have been playing well. Keep it up. If you feel that the party players are more aggressive in certain situations, especially after you bet, it might be a good situation in which to consider consciously altering your bet sizes. It's tough to do that without creating tells, but it's possible. I'm thinking something along these lines:

In a certain situation ---
what you do now: bet 75% of the pot
what you could do: If you have an especially strong hand, bet 80% of the pot 60% of the time, and 70% of the pot 40% of the time. If you have one of your more vulnerable hands, bet 70% of the pot 60% of the time, and 80% of the pot 40% of the time.

Something like this should pretty much prevent any tells from occuring. My thinking is that if after you bet, they raise you some multiple of the amount that you bet, then the effect of varying your bet is magnified.

Just an idea -- what do you think? I'm one of those guys who can talk a better game than I can play, so I don''t have any real experience with this idea at even medium stakes NL ring. I really do think it has potential though.

Anyway, I'm impressed with how you've been doing so far. Good luck figuring out the Party games!

Sweet Jesus, that's an ugly hand! After a beat like that, I wouldn't be able to function like a poker player, so I'd take a day off from the tables.

Rough luck on that hand ice, especially for the double stack.

But don't forget, that's why you've got stakers. we wouldn't have backed you if we didn't have the upmost confidence in both you and your game. It's tough losing a hand like that, but that's what we're here for, to help you get adjusted to being able to tak that kind of loss so you can get into that game on your own dime.

I know i speak for myself, and i assume the rest of the stakers when i say that we all knew this hand would come up eventually. You know as well as any of us that sometimse the best you can do is get the money in as a favorite and let the cards sort out the rest. you did that, you played fine, and you got unlucky. Just try not to dwell on it, and remember that you've got enough people you've never met before who have enough confidence in you that they'd risk thousands of dollars to help you adjust to this game. Try not to worry about the value of the stake or your current bank roll. If we each lose a few hundred bucks on this venture, oh well. if we make a few hundred, cool. you've got the skill and the roll to beat this game, so even if you've had some rough days, it'll sort out.

Relax, take a deep breath, and try again tomorrow. And don't forget, we're here to take some of the financial burden off of your shoulders. so don't waste your timing thinking about that pot.
