I suppose I could have folded on the flop after he raised me, but I had top pair. Was the board scary enough for me to fold? JT would have given him a straight. On the turn I have top 2 pair and the ace didn't help his straight possibilities. Although he kept betting, I had top 2 pair and was reluctant to fold. So, 5.5 BB down the drain. Just out of curiosity I looked at 15 2 pair hands I've had lately, and I lost 13 times. I guess 2 pair should be folded to any resistance! Clueless as usual.

Do not EVER fold TPTK on the flop to one re-raise. In fact, I'd make it 3-bets. He could easily have KQ. If he 4-bets I'd assume I'm against two-pair or set. If the turn was no help and he's still firing away, I'd dump it. Here you picked up two-pair on the turn so you cannot dump it.

Also... there's no point in leading out with a bet on the river there. You're nearly positive you're behind unless he REALLY overplayed something. Just check-call it and hope for the best.

3-bet the flop, check-call to river if he 4-bets flop. Raise turn if he doesn't 4-bet the flop.

I think you got a little too excited about the ace landing. On the Q98 board, you're more likely against a set or a straight, than two pair (89 is possible, but Q9 and Q8 are less likely) 88 99 and TJ are common hands that people might want to peak at a flop with.from UTG+2. Q8 Q9 and 89 are less likely UTG+2 hands, IMO.

I might 3 bet the flop, and even lead out against a cap on the turn if against a loose/aggressive post-flop player, but against a normal or tight player, I back down after a 2nd raise or reraise, and call it down.
