UB's tough bonus system just got tougher...eek

Postby Ricardooon » Sun Sep 04, 2005 7:03 am

Hey,

Thought I would write a little rant against UB. They have just changed the way they allocate points now when playing on their site. The result being what was previously a tough place to get your bonus dollars out of has just become a whole heap tougher.

Previously you could earn 1 UB pt for every pot raked over $1, if the hand was under then you got what ever the rake was so 85 cents meant 0.85 pts etc. 10 pts equals one dollar so unless you are playing high limits it was tough to get out anyway at any reasonable rate.

So this not withstanding in their infinate wisdom they have decided this is too generous and from this weekend the max pts per hand is now capped at 0.5 pts per hand as follows:

$0.50 - $3.00 = 0.50pts
$0.25 - $0.45 = 0.25pts
$0.05 - $0.20 = 0.10pts

As someone who really like UB I am gutted by this. I have been playing there as my main site since making the move to NL since I have a small fortune in bonus dollars to unleash. It has only been since making the move to $100NL I have been able to get this out at a reasonable rate. I am sure they will have their good reasons for this change (profit?) but it now seem to me that they is no limit now on UB where you will be able to gain pts at a rate worth while.

Since you need 20 hands a dollar now, assuming you play say 60 hands an hour that makes the max you can unleash would be $3 per hour per table. Reality means it would be more like $2 since not all hands are going to rake or be over $10 which is what you would need to make 0.50pts. Also this means there is also barely any advantage in $200NL over $100NL. As for playing at a lower limit, well you now have your life's work!

I understand all the blurb about playing for more than just bonus' etc. I just like the idea I am earning a little while I play. This change sucks, its not like UB was known as a bonus whores paradise anyway.

Well thats my rant over for now.

I guess they are feeling the pinch. When I started online, UB, Paradise and Party were the "big three" sites and there wasn't a great deal beyond them. Now UB and Paradise are almost dropping off the radar, I really think the tough games (in UBs case) and crap site (in Paradises case) put people off. I bet UB isn't even close to being in the top three most popular sites now, so they're probably tightening their belts.

Its a shame because I really like the site. Haven't played there in a while though. Oh well. Free market economics

Monk--

When you say UB has tough games, do you mean in comparison to Party or is UB one of the tougher sites overall?

For "big bet" games it seems to be tougher than some of the competition. The omaha sucks (although the low limit PLO and $400 games are often good) - limit O8 used to be fun there but that seems tight now as well, with few tables to choose from. There's rarely a 100PLO game going that's much good. I dunno about NL these days; I used to play there all the time a while back for NL and the low level games used to be juicy. Not sure now.

But in general it's kind of a "given" that UB attracts less terrible players than most sites.

UB might as well not offer bonus's. Their bonus's are so freakin tough clear, now they make them even worse, why bother offering bonus's. I still have $200 worth of bonus's left on UB which I might clear by the time I turn 50.

Question: Can uncleared UB bonuses be included in my will? I'd hate to have the grandkids fighting over them because I didn't think to put them in there.

In the event of a nuclear holocaust I heard the only things left will be cockroaches and uncleared UB bonuses.

Perhaps the roaches can take up pineapple.
