The way I actually played the hand was to check raise the flop.
I believed he would lead the flop with anything, but would back down to a check raise and possibly a lead on the turn, unless he caught whatever it is that he needed. In this way I would also get an extra small bet out of him, even if he had nothing.but jack or queen high.
So it plays out like this
I check, he bets, I raise, he folds.
If he 3 bet, I would call and check fold unless I improved. If he checked behind me on the turn and the river was another blank, I would pay out an ace on the river.
Is this best? I don't know, but it made sense at the time.
