late sng hand

Postby slaz13 » Tue Nov 16, 2004 12:27 pm

HI it is late in an sng, 4 people left, with top 3 making the money, blinds 300-600...I have about 4200 in chips..two others have about 2200 each, and UTG has about 5500. I pick up JJ in the SB. UTG raises to 1200 (min raise), and I call it. flop is 7 3 2. I push in my remaining $3000, (pot was $3000), and UTG calls and turns over KK, and I bust out 4th. Anyway I could have avoided this, or played it better?

It depends on your goal. If your main goal is to win, then you made the right play. If you want to be sure and make the money , then I would probably fold even JJ there against the big stack. Both of the other 2 guys have less than 3 BBs and one of them is going to bust in the next 4-5 hands. You could probably fold to the money 80% of the time, and then attack.

I think I would have actually pushed PF - but your play was fine too. A lot of the times you will be up against 88 or AT.
