Question from a new player

I am new to poker. I am reading a lot (books plus online, including here and UPF), and I feel like I'm learning quickly. I have not yet staked any money at all, and probably won't for a while. So far I'm just playing the free tables at Ultimate Bet.

I spent several hours per day for a few weeks playing limit poker at UB. Recently I have started playing no-limit. I'm winning regularly and easily, but even *I* can tell that these people are either total morons or don't care AT ALL whether or not they win. So far I've tripled my chips (or better) in no limit several times just by waiting for AA, KK, or QQ, then moving all-in pre-flop, and being called by 2 OR MORE people every time (who are playing A9, K7, T8, etc). In limit I've been re-raised and capped on the river by people who literally have nothing (not even ace high) in a five-way pot. Sheesh.

Anyway, when I do start playing for real, maybe in a few months, it's likely to be with a bankroll of about 100 bucks. Maybe 200 tops.

I like the look and feel of Ultimate Bet. The only other site I have played at is Pacific Poker, which is ugly. But if the fish there are bigger and dumber, I would be willing to live with ugly.

Does anyone have advice as to where I should deposit my first hundred bucks, to have the most chance to keep it alive and growing? I guess I'm looking for the best combination of (a) weak play, (b) low limits, and (c) low rake at those low limits, with (d) a decent look-and-feel a secondary consideration. (I know that UB has $.01/$.02 limit poker available with no rake at all -- but that seems too low to even bother with. Or is it?)

I plan to start with ring games, if that makes a difference.

I will play very, very low limits at first. I am patient, and not looking to make any particular $ per hour -- just to win a teensy little bit of money while I improve my game.

Thanks for any and all advice.

The play at the real money tables is by far the weakest at Party Poker. The players at UB are quite a bit tighter.
I dont suggest you wait for AA, KK or QQ and go all in, but believe it or not, that WILL work at the lower limts at Party. You need to play other hands also or the blinds will eat you up, but people WILL call you a good percentage of the time with KT or whatever other hand they happen to like.

If you decide to play at Party, you can click the large Party banner on this page and you'll get a 20% deposit bonus when you sign up. This gives us a little kickback revenue from Party which helps up keep this site opertaing.

Jump on in....and post some hands here to get advice and your game will improve quickly.

Party Pokers smallest games, either limit or NL are still a bit too big for a $200 bankroll if you have no real money experience. I've never played on UB but I think Pacific has even worse limit players than Party. While bad players are what bankrolls are built on, it means there's more variance; there will be greater swings in the bankroll.

I'd recommend play at Pacific in spite of this because they have limits smaller than Party which is important for a starting bankroll, the play is dreadful and as long as you don't lose discipline, this could be a successful way to build the bankroll.

With the variety of low limits your bankroll should be able to adapt to Pacific, but yes, the software is dreadful.

Best of luck,

Paradise Poker is a good site for low limt NL and in my experiance has a good number of live ones. I've always made money off it everytime I've played there.

The software is nice and not ugly. To be honest I think it is comparable to UB in terms of tables but I think it is softer.
