Calling the mizors down: How not to play a flush draw

Postby MecosKing » Thu Sep 15, 2005 4:29 pm

WEll, this hand came up today when i was playing some 20/40 jus to kill some time. I was hoping for a quick hit n run, and thats exactly what i got - since i tilted off $200 playing 6/12 today live, and a bit playing BJ (still at the commerce) i figured i have 1/2 an hour before i gotta leave, i mights well attempt to mize a bit.

So i have AQ in MP, and a mizor limps (i havent got solid reads on these players yet as ive barely been at the table for an orbit, but this guy seems to play too any hands.

He CRED me on the flop, and immediately i was a little sucpicious because that board was just TOO awful to have much that someone in MP can limp with, even if they are a pretty loose/bad player. 89s or A8s or something like that is the only real possibility, buts ince i suspect a flush draw i 3 bet to see where im at. The thing that lost him the hand was the cap. I knew for sure at that point he was on a flush draw, because if he had a monster, he'd call the 3 bet and go for the turn CR. Instead he caps it and checks the turn, and i literally bet my ace high for value. He calls and bricks the river. I was thinking of betting again but on the offchance he had a pair to go with his club draw, i checked behind.

If you really want to milk your flushie draw for every bit of its fold equity, ya gotta either CR the turn or at least bet the turn. I dont know if i couldve called a bet on the turn, because i mightve (maybe) changed my read if he led the turn (although i mightve still called, i dunno). I could not have called a turn CR, obviously.
