Watch me dump those aces on the flop!

Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (7 handed)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [Ad], [As].
UTG calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO raises, Hero 3-bets, SB calls, 1 fold, UTG calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO calls.

Flop: (19 SB) [8h], [6s], [7h] (6 players)
SB bets, UTG raises, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO 3-bets, Hero folds, SB caps, UTG calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, CO calls.

...

Final Pot: 35.50 BB

I thought this was the easiest AA fold I've ever made. A bet, a raise, and a re-raise all happened before me with my lowly overpair and no backdoors. I didn't even know if my ace outs were good enough to win! Even if they were clean, I was given 29:3 or 9.5:1 odds, which isn't even close to the 22:1 I needed.

I figured I was against a couple different straight draws, two-pair or better, and maybe a flush draw. With this much action, I really didn't want to stick around with just an overpair.

See? I'm not a complete lunatic with when to call and fold in large pots!

Escapeplan:

I am with Nortonesque in thinking that this is not a clear fold. I also read the 2+2 thread you referenced and I do think many of your responses over there were results oriented. Clealy, knowing what your opponents actually held, it was an good fold. The real question is what range of hands to they likely hold when the action gets to you on the flop for 3-bets. You put them on "Against two-pair, an OESD, and a flush draw, I only have 9% equity with my AA. Against a set, an OESD, and a flush draw, I only have 4% equity. Those are the situations I thought I was in." While I think all of these are possible, I think there are other likely scenarios where you don't fare so poorly. Without specific reads, it is hard to narrow their ranges down, but you are going to be ahead, with that action, more often than you think.

Perhaps more often than I think, but not more often than not. I wouldn't even say 1/3 of the time I'd be against something worse than two-pair in this loose-passive table.

And really, what are you going to do on the turn when faced with a bet and raise? Continue to call down? So far everyone has avoided that question.

If you cap it and it gets bet and raised on the turn, or it's checked to you and you get check-raised (by someone other than CO), then you can lay it down. People love to put in a bet or two on the flop to test the preflop raiser, hoping he's on overcards. Cap the flop, and see what they think about their hands when they know you don't have just overcards.

I think its one of those hands that you may well be ahead at the flop but against four others the chance if will wind up the winner at the river is, to me not worth expense when you have lost the initiative and will basically be crossing your fingers the rest of the hand.
