I've played no-limit almost exclusively for the past four months, but last week after losing two buy-ins to set over set in twenty minutes, I decided to go back to fixed limit, which is where I started. My first session was a disaster. I overplayed my small pocket pairs and folded my kings and queens every time an overcard hit. I'm doing much better now, but I have one huge leak: the blinds. I don't know what to do. The only time I defend my big blind is when it's folded to CO or Button, he raises, and SB folds. I never defend my small blind unless I pick up a real hand, because I don't won't to put in 1.5 small bets in a potential three-way pot with a trash hand. Is my thinking correct here?

I've only played 1.846 $2/$4 hands on Party, so it's a small sample size, but I see a clear and alarming trend here. This is a screenshot from PokerOffice:



How bad is it?

Hey dude-

Wel lemme first just say: Welcome to the non-fuck-me-in-the-fuck-fuck-nut-fuck-head part of the forum! (The Limit section, in other words!)

Not too often you get people switching from NL to L, usually the other way around...

In any case, there has been lots of stuff on the forum about blind defnese (theres a thread just a couple below this one by piersmajestyk entitled 'blind defense'). Tiburons journal also has some stuff he wrote about it in there, and its on his poker blog also which is linked in his tagline.

OTher than all that, id say not to worry TOO too much about your bad results here. Now mind you i am not saying your playing optimally from the blinds and just getting hosed because i got no way of knowing that- but what i can tell you is that when you see the flop with 53% of your BB hands and win only 13% of them, that pretty much means you are runnin REAL bad. Your sample size is really small, and until it gets to 10k hands at least, and you still have these type of numbers, then its time to start worrying.

However, like i said if oyud like to look over some stuff on the subject, its all over BTP including the places where i mentioned...
