Party Poker 20/40 Hold'em (6 max, 9 handed)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [Kd], [Kc].
UTG calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, 1 fold, MP3 calls, Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls, UTG calls, MP1 calls, MP3 calls.

Flop: (12 SB) [8s], [5s], [8d] (7 players)
SB bets, BB folds, UTG calls, MP1 folds, MP3 calls, Hero calls.

Turn: (8 BB) [6d] (5 players)
SB bets, UTG folds, MP3 folds, Hero calls.

River: (10 BB) [Js] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls.

Final Pot: 12 BB

Results in white below:
CO doesn't show.
Hero has Kd Kc (two pair, kings and eights).
SB has Ac 5c (two pair, eights and fives).
Outcome: Hero wins 12 BB.

Did I play this atrociously? It seems unconventional, but I really couldn't find a good spot for a raise.

I dunno, I woulda just popped it on the flop without hesitation. I see what you mean about not finding a good spot to raise, because it's not like a flop raise is gonna screw up anyone's odds or thin the field...but I still think it's a good raise for value to charge people with a 5, a lower pocket pair, or crappy overcards.

6-max, 9-handed?

There are times when you should wait for the turn with an overpair. This however is not the time for it. Although it's true you can't protect your hand here, your equity edge is too large here not to raise (it's rare anyone here has 55 or 8x). The flop raise also would have helped define your hand.

The SB is leading into a pretty big field. Am I the only one that thinks an 8 is tremendously likely?

Yes, I do think an 8 is tremendously likely. As are pocket 5's from the SB. Although even the SB may have slow played both of those.
I would have raised the flop to find out just what kind of shape I was in.

I guess I'm just used to the lower-limit zaniness. So many of these players will lead out with anything and everything on these flops. Some of them do it in hopes they can knock you out if you just have overcards.

If I were the SB, I'd bet that flop with an OESD, a flush draw, or trips. He played like a moron by leading out with bottom pair. If SB put you on overcards, he should have check-raised with his bottom-pair and overcard.

I'd raise that flop 100% of the time without a good read on the player.

I think "tremendously likely" is really pushing it. Granted, maybe I'm just being result-oriented about this, but I think he could easily be leading with a pair lower than yours, a five, or a draw. Yes, it's a big field and there's a preflop raiser. It's also a very ragged board, and even though 20-40 is a shitload higher than I play, I'm still optimistic enough to believe that there are folks up there who will lead into a large field with a weak hand. If you raise and he 3-bets, or if he calls and check-raises the turn, well okay then you can reconsider. But from the information we have so far (cold-called from SB, lead into a large field on the flop) I think it's far too early to call trips or better tremendously likely.
