I have yet to play Omaha in any form live. The thing that seems most obvious to me is that it might be somewhat more difficult remembering your hole cards without having to look at them a second or third time. I have a system down to remember my hole cards in hold em, but there's only two of them. That's one thing I really like about Omaha on line is that the cards are there face up, and many times you can catch that unintended straight and it hits my eye where otherwise I might not have noticed it quick enough to benefit.

I've been mixing up my games quite a bit, playing more PL Omaha 8 cash games, which are pretty easy pickins. Last night for example, I played PLO8 .25/.50 and won $40 in an hour, while taking a 4th place (no money of course) in a $33 NLHE SNG and a second place in an $11 PL Omaha game.

People gave me some guff about mixing up games to lower variance, but I'm making more money this way, so why fight it. It keeps me from overplaying NLHE SNGs, as I used to multi-table them. I feel it has a huge benefit mentally, since I'm always thinking. Poker is a thinking man's game and if you can keep the mind alert, I think you make better decisions.

Haven't updated in a while

Well, after a week or so of middling around at a bankroll of $1400, I decided to buy myself a sweet portable dvd player for $300. Loving it. Anyways, as so often happens when I make one of these little purchases, I hit a winning streak. Thus it has happened again!

Monday night, I took second in a $22 Fixed O8 MTT with 24 players, taking home $144, while simultaneously taking second in a $22 NLHE SNG, taking home $54. Then yesterday, I won another $45 playing cash games in Fixed O8 at 1/2 and various lower levels. So, I'm pretty happy now, as I've nearly completely recouped the bankroll I spent on the dvd player in 3 days!!!

I really enjoy these fixed O8 MTTs, and have done very well in them. Its a great game and in general, the cash games (if you can avoid the players that play all day long) are a fishpond. Looking forward to what could be my first $500 winning month, its already my third straight $400+ month!!!

Till later on, AMF!!!

PL O8 cash game strategy

Postby kdiddy33 » Sat Oct 29, 2005 9:39 am

I've been venturing into the $1/$2 games, where the action can get downright nutty. In theory, I should be buying into these games at around $100-200. However, with the bigger stacks sometimes getting real aggressive and trying to buy pots before the turn, I find it better to buy in at $50, so if I chase what could be a great hand and miss on the river, which has absolutely happened, my downside risk is only $50. Now, some could argue that I'm limiting my upside, but I disagree. I play tight with my $50, win a couple pots, and next thing you know I'm around $100+. It take a while, but I can't handle the big bankroll swings that would happen if I bought in at $100-200. I've noticed a lot of other players buying short too. I wouldn't buy in for like $20 for this game, but $50 feels right to me.

Yesterday I had a wild day, up $100 in PL games, then lost it. Then I playd a $22 MTT in PL O8 and took 3rd, marking another cash for me in these MTTs. I have cashed in 4 or 5 of these in this month. I feel strong in them even when I come in to the final table with a relatively short stack. Not super short, but short. I actually was chip leader early on in this one for a change, then muddled around for a while before the final table.

I just marked my first month with over $500 in profit!!!

Best MTT comeback ever!!!

Postby kdiddy33 » Sun Oct 30, 2005 6:53 am

I played the $5.50 PL O8 MTT last night on Full Tilt. There were 116 entries. I got a good jump early, only to be sucked out in hideous fashion and brought down to about 1000 chips. I hung in tough, but at one point I was in 52nd out of 53.

I battled back to get my chips up on some well timed pushes that worked in my favor. When all was said and done, I took second place and a hard earned $98.

This is my 6th cash in MTTs this month in Omaha and Omaha 8 games. Feeling pretty strong today!!!!
