Seems the only thing I'm right about is admitting I was wrong.
They tell me life goes on, so I guess I'll wait and see.
It hurts so much to be with her, and so much more after she's gone...
But at least life will go on, for her if not for me.

I took a long walk in the rain, and it washed my dreams away.
Now I'm not sure how I'll fill the time between sunset and dawn.
At least we had some perfect moments, but such moments never stay,
They just turn to fading memories, because sadly, life goes on.

Ah well, what can ya do, eh? Didn't put in a lot of time this week, and I'm pretty set on ending it by getting entirely too drunk for anyone's good. Think I completely missed out on almost all the multi bonuses, though there's still some hope I can clear the $400 jobber next week. Next week I'll be working a lot less and playing a lot more, so hopefully I can re-enter my pokerholic mode!

One of the many "bright sides" with which I've been blessed is that from working about 60 hours last week, I can pretty much forego a poker cash-out. I'm pretty certain I made exactly $1 during my extensive playing time (about 1.5 hours) over the past week, so hey, at least I came out ahead!

Two suggestions:

1) Try to get something published in a magazine or lit journal first.

2) Consider PoD self-publishing. It's remarkably cheap (<$100 set up, iirc), and your hardbound book can be sold via Amazon and listed in the various catalogs that booksellers order from. Honestly, screw the middle man -- there are tons of ways you can market your own stuff and make just as much money and perhaps sell as many books (e.g., coffeehouse marketing). I'll dig up the link to a good one if you are interested.

OK... lots of links coming.

I recommend you look at Lulu.com:

Here is a guy who has successfully printed two books using Lulu (covers are on the blog):

Here are some basics on distribution:

Here is the option you want for international listing and online seller listings (I think you just need to be listed in Ingrams):

Here are the specific questions about this kind of distribution:

Here are two other services:

This is the PoD subsidiary of Amazon:

FWIW, I strongly recommend Lulu.

No excuses for not publishing now. :D

Wow, that's pretty cool Kuso! Thank you very much for all the links, Lulu does seem like a good way to get started, and at least I'm now finally getting a hang of the publishing process. For now, I'm gonna keep on writing, try to figure out how to best organize my random crap into something that could loosely be called a book, and get as much feedback and criticism as I can.

Thanks again, mate!

np, tightie.

I forgot to mention a few ways (there are lots, really) to promote your book.

1) If you're a performer, schedule some live readings at coffee houses. Request that they offer the book for sale at or near the register for a week before and a week after you perform. You'll likely be able to sell a copy or three on the night of the reading. I could never do this, as I am not angry or pensive enough to endear myself to this kind of crowd.

2) Pimp it on the BTP book list.

3) E-mail that amazon link to every family member you know. They'll think it's cool to have a book published by a family member.

If you really want to impress the chicks, become the owner of a "boutique publishing house". For a few hundred per title, you can add "TW Press" or whatever to the book, and you become THE MAN. There are tons of ways to do this.

Anyway, one thing they do where I live is make authors whose works are accepted pay a publishing fee if they want to be printed in the anthology. This costs something like $50-$100 per story. You might be able to make an anthology of your own, charge people money for the privilege of getting published, get your own stuff published for free, and STILL get the chicks.

There is actual work to be done with regards to making camera-ready copy (actually, a good PDF), cover design, editing, etc. But still...

Hhhmmm... I should do that.
