Definitely doable. Plenty of people here do it.
What games and limits have you been playin? FWIW, online limits tend to be tougher than the same limits live. Also, a lot of home games are REALLY soft -- as such, your normal stakes at home (say $100 SnG) that is your personal ATM might actually be a bit tough online.
I would recommend starting fairly low and move up as you have the confidence and skills to beat each level.
If you want some soft low limit tables, I recommend PokerChamps. They have ubersoft $2 and $5 NL tables. I hear the nanolimit tables (<$10) at PokerStars are good, too.
