I'd like everyone's honest opinion on the prospects of making money playing online. I've played almost exclusively home games (basically one night sit-n-go's with rebuys/add ons) and done really well. Problem is all the games in my area have, for whatever reason, been shut down/discontinued. I was thinking of starting my own but was vetoed by the wife. So that leaves online for me as I live 10 hours from the nearest casino. I've kinda dabbled on PP and PS awhile back, but lost initial $100 on each. I'd sure like to keep that extra $800-$900/month coming in but worry about compitition online. I've read the basic strategy guide in this forum and have the chart based on Ed Miller's book (have the book too). I was playing a couple of times a week before, so I could get away with playing 40hrs/month online. Have $500 to plunk down. What do you think??

Definitely doable. Plenty of people here do it.

What games and limits have you been playin? FWIW, online limits tend to be tougher than the same limits live. Also, a lot of home games are REALLY soft -- as such, your normal stakes at home (say $100 SnG) that is your personal ATM might actually be a bit tough online.

I would recommend starting fairly low and move up as you have the confidence and skills to beat each level.

If you want some soft low limit tables, I recommend PokerChamps. They have ubersoft $2 and $5 NL tables. I hear the nanolimit tables (<$10) at PokerStars are good, too.

I started with zero (out of principle) and now have about a $2k BR -- check out for details.

You will have to change your style (home games vs. online has to a HUGE difference)...Just don't be in too big a hurry to move up, but as K said ABSLOLUTELY doable...
