Today, I finished up $2. I was up as much as $20 when
I won a hand when I made two pair on the turn.
Otherwise I got horrible starting cards with very few
exceptions. The highest and only pocket pair I had was
fives. At the end I won a bluff with six high and
stole the blinds with QT and decided to quit.

2/4 limit hold'em full tables

Today I finished up $15, which is quite an
accomplishment since I got mostly crummy cards all
day. I was down as much as $69, when I made a comeback
by winning the following 5 hands.

1. I won with AK when I flopped kings and got a full
house king over eights on the river.

2. I won with Qs Js when I flopped queens which held
up to win.

3. I won with AQ when I flopped trip aces.

4. I won with Tc 6c when I made my only flush draw of
the day on the turn.

5. I won with AK when I flopped a king.

Other than those five hands, I mostly had nothing.

I had no pocket pairs higher than nines, which I lost
with anyway.

I made no sets, and only one flush.

I made one straight, and won a very small pot with it
when my opponents folded to a bet.

Fortunately, I only lost on the river once. I had two
pair and lost to a higher two pair.

Well, I dont feel that I can merit a journal of my own, so I think this is the best place for me to post my poker ramblings.

Ended up playing a game 4 handed tonight. I finished the MPRE and exited the test center to an amazing day. Decided on the spot that I would be grilling tonight. Called up some friends and ended up having 3 come over for skewers of chicken and venison on the grill on the roof. Afterwords we had the people and some leftover beer so decided to play a bit of cards. $10 buy in, nothing serious.

One of my friends got hit by the deck. Let me rephrase that, got SLAMMED by the deck. He got Jacks twice in the first 4 hands, including an A-9-7 flop when he would not lay it down and took a pretty nice pot from me. He is a terrible player but had everything going his way (including calling down and winning with 2s twice).

I had a couple notable hands, including two times I went up against my friend Shed and outkicked him just barely twice (kj v. qj and q4 v. j4) for most of my winnings.

I also hit my first live straghit flush ever. He had 9-6 and I had 10-8h. Flop came 9h-7h-6s giving me the nut straghit and the open ended sf draw, but also giving him two pair. We ended up all in and the Jh came on the turn. Very nice.

I ended up dumping a bunch of chips the next hand to my friend (still getting hit by the deck but playing like the moron he is) when we ended up all in with his a-9 against my a-q. Flop came a-9-7, turn was another 9, river was a (useless) q. This was by far the biggest pot ever in our (admitidly modest) home game, with him winning something like $45, having gotten in with the worst hand.

Oh well.

The test went well and we enjoyed the beautiful day, and I still won money, so cant complain I suppose.

Activity for 11/05/05
2/4 limit hold'em full tables

Today I won $5.

Of course, my only two pocket pairs, AA and KK went
down in flames. The AA to trip nines on the turn, and
the KK to a flush on the river. When will I start
folding these losers? Just kidding!!!

But I had a few of my lesser hands win, and I made a
full bluffs with nothing, to finish up a little.

I had 6s 4s and got a flush on the turn to win.

I also had QT and flopped a straight, and won a small
pot when my three opponents folded on the turn.

Otherwise, I had basically nothing.

So far this month I made up what I lost last month.

Activity for 11/06/05
2/4 limit hold'em full tables.

Today was an up and down and up day. I finished up
$66.

THE UPSWING

I started out up $74.

1. I had 65 in the small blind and flopped two pair to
win.

2. Then I got pocket AA which held up to win a small
pot.

3. Then I made a flush draw to win.

4. Then I posted with K8 and flopped two pair to win.

5. And lastly I had Ah Kh and flopped a straight to
win. That was the end of my early run of good luck.

THE DOWNSWING

Then I went on a period in which very few of my hands
held up. I was getting good cards pre-flop, but the
flops were missing me for the most part. I lost $70 of
my $74 gain.

1. I got a bunch of pocket pairs and lost with most of
them. I lost with JJ, QQ, 99, 99. I won small pots
with 99, and 88.

2. Also I got a few flush draws and missed on all of
them and had to fold.

3. And in one important pot, I turned two pair and
lost on the river (a 3 outer) to a higher two pair. Ugh. I really
hated that result.

THE UPSWING AGAIN

Finally at the end, my good luck came back when I
played 4 hands and won with all of them.

1. I had 76 in the small blind and won with sevens.

2. I had KQ in the big blind and won with kings.

3. I had pocket AA, which held up to win unimproved.

4. And lastly I got As 6s, flopped a flush draw, turned an ace, and my aces beat pocket QQ.

Sets flopped were 0 for 11, below average.

Flush draws were 1 for 4 and 1/2, below average.

Hey Woody,

Dont worry to much about a losing day you will come good. What do you play full ring or 6-max? U just gotta take losing days and try to minimise your losses when you know you've been outdrawn or sucked out!

Good luck at the tables
