Time to take a break? Tilt advice needed.

Had a horrible week so far. I am even and not down which is good, but my goodness this is a bad stretch. I've had 20 full houses this week according to Pokertracker...and I am only up $48 in that category!! That's insane for $100 NL Holdem.

I'm 1 for 6 on trips on the flop this week. That's right. I've tripped 6 times and won exactly one time. 3 set over set, 1 runner runner full house and 1 runner runner quads. I only slowplayed once..so that's not the answer!! :)

Anyway, tonight I actually tried to bluff a guy who held the nut full house. I had Jack high.

After that hand, I realized I might have some tilt issues going on so I left. I'm pretty sure I have a little very "unnoticeable" tilt going on , hard to detect, but its there. I've been getting enflamed a lot easier lately, one hand will do it. I haven't had tilt issues for months. But like I've said..it's been a bad week. I think this tilt has made me call a few hands I shouldn't have and the like. I just didn't notice it before until I get totally enflamed.

I plan on not playing at all friday- weekend except for a tournment on Saturday. You guys think this is the time to take a break? Will it help? Anything else I should know? How have you guys dealt with your "barely noticeable" tilt...something that will cost you a lot of money in the long run but is so hard to detect? This is my first time dealing with this kind of tilt. Any feedback is welcome.

A break is a great idea, IMO. You should not *completely* disconnect from poker, keep your appetite up a little (perhaps read the forums a little and just relax). The fact that your "bad" week has not had you losing money is a GREAT bonus and you really should focus on that! When you come back hopefully you'll have renewed focus. If I'm running bad and getting sick of one game, I play another (i.e. O8, PLO, NL, swap between or play all three) which is the benefit of knowing a few games... If you don't like this idea, perhaps you could ease yourself back in with some SnGs, I always find these to be good fun and a nice way to get over a bad run or change pace slightly in the NL game. When I played mostly NL, i found that a couple of nice SnGs always set me right back on track and gave me added confidence and appetite to attack the ring games once more. I usually played 100NL, yet when I took a break to thrash around on some SnGs I usually wouldnt play higher than $20's or $30's.

Hope this helps.

Your run sounds brutal, and yet you've not lost money. This is a massive upside and you should really bear that very heavily in mind. Your acton now has to be all about refocussing and reapplying yourself to the game, a good session should help no end with that!

can I suggest investigating if you are on 'hidden tilt'?

you have all your hh stored in PT for immediate replay - take a look at your 20 biggest losing hands and replay them..do the same for your 20 biggest winners too... are you happy with the way you are playing these hands?

look at your aggression rating, won at showdowns, vip and pfr

spend an evening analysing stuff with PT rather than blasting away in $10 sng's to relieve your frustration ...more profitable in the long-run

Monk-
You know I've already started what you're suggesting? Yesterday I played my first 7 card stud sitngo, after I lost top two pair to a backdoor 94s flush on the NLHE table. It was $10 buyin. I won 1st even though I suck hardcore at stud.. it was a lot of fun and very diverting! I will do some reading and try to improve my Omaha and Stud games. It really breaks up the manotany of always playing the same game at the same limit.

I'm actually very happy at the moment that I'm still even. I may be down like $30 overall on the week but that's nothing so...I consider that even. I'm still showing $42 an hour for the month...why am I even complaining ? lol I guess I just wanted to hold those insane hourly figures I was making. Still, the beats these weeks have taken their toll.

Excession-
I will do as you say. I'm not sure what my biggest losers are, but my guess would be pocket pairs. I'll let you know later today or tommorow how it goes. Nothing better to do since I won't let myself play :)

Something I found after losing 10 buyins last week in 3 days, mainly due to 2,3 and 4 outers hitting with one card to come was that over the past few weeks I had slowly tightened up to the point of playing good cards too much and I made a conscious effort to limp with suited connectors more etc.

I only play 6-handed so my gradual tightness was probably very obvious. Anyway, after loosening up a little in late position, I've had a very good week, made those buyins back and I'm enjoying poker a bit more due to flopping straights a few times a day.

I'd recommend a little PLO as well

thanks molina i will keep that in mind. though...i think tilt would loosen me up more then tighten me up. but thats just me. i like to play the hand ;-)

just thinking about it a lil more excession... it's not really "hidden tilt" as much as it is "mini-tilt"

I think it's the worst kind of tilt because it is so hard to realize you have it. you don't make any glowing bad plays, but little calls out of position and the like drain your profits big time.
