Meh, I've been staked for probably 80% of my poker "career." It makes me a lot more responsible, knowing I have to tell someone what I did with their money. Often when I'm playing on my own money, I tend to mix my games a lot, play too many tournaments, etc. Not to say that it's a bad thing to mix your games, because I'm definately a winning player at all of them (Except PLO high, damn that game!!), but my results are a lot better when I just focus on one thing, and don't take shots. It's also nice because it takes the thought of "moving up limits" completely out of my mind. I know the staker gave me x ammount of money to play x game and that's what I'm gonna do. Haha. The only thing I can't stand about being staked is that a lot of people expect a phenomonal winrate. They're like, "Well he wins more than I do, so if I give him 3k, I bet he'll have tripled that by month's end!", and then when I show them that I made about 1.5-2k, they get kinda angry

Semi-short term tournament stakes are also hell. They see you do well in a couple tournements, tell you to play every 20-50 dollar tournament for a week, and are absolutely heart-broken when you tell them you made one final table, and it was in the 20 dollar event, and you barely pulled in any profit over the week. After that happened, I just decided I'm only going to let people who actually play well stake me, although I suppose if they're that good, they might as well stake themselves!

sorry for the journal hijack rhound.

i told briachek if i ever hit it rich i'm gonna do a lot of staking. it just makes sense...i know a lot of good players that could make a lot of money in long term stake deals. it's just like investing really... over the long term if you do your research, you'll win.

I think MVP is at about +400% on me.

I'll probably stick with it once I pick up my playing time again, as I'm already on a short roll with my ring games.

I dont know about ring games, but I feel like I play much more solid tourney poker when staked.

Holy crap my journal has become popular. I understand what you guys are saying and I have never even come close to losing 20 buy ins, the streak I'm on right now is my worst run in 4 years and I'm still under 10 buyins. I guess the thing is I am very happy with the level I am at and beating on the players I am playing. I make a very nice per hour that blows away anything I could make working part time while I'm in school. I really dont have dreams of playing 20k buy in NL games. Maybe someday I will, but that really isnt the goal. I still have the roll to play the games I am comfortable in so getting staked seems like undue and unneccisary added stress.

So yeah that poker thing 2006 starts like 2005 ended. No suckouts this time, just totally and completely card dead for 4 hrs. In 4 hrs I never flopped better than one pair. I flopped top pair once and that was all in and all in in front of me with A9 on a 987 flop. I won 3 pots in 4 hrs.

Hand 1 I am the BB with J [Th] flop is [Ah] [4h] [Qh]. Checks around. Turn is the [9h] it checks around. River K. I bet $10 everyone fold.

Hand 2 I am MP with QQ. UTG straddles, one caller. I raise to $40 everyone folds.

Hand 3 My last I have [9h] [Th] flop is [Qh] [6h] [7d] I bet from MP and everyone folds.

These were my three huge winners for the day. I played at the Bike in LA on my way back to SD. Crazy action game, tons of preflop raising with terrible hands. I saw a guy make the 3rd raise with Q9o. I counted 9 pocket pairs without flopping a set. CARD DEAD
4 hrs -$280

I think it is time for a real break. The crappy run of cards continues. I dont even feel like posting exact hands this time. I played my usual home game. I didnt win a hand for the first 1.5 hrs at a 7 handed table. Then after I finally won a hand or two, I get all my money in with the best hand , pretty much call my opponants two cards and as usual get sucked out. I cant remember the last fucking time a fucking hand actually held up for me. I know what everyone is going to say bad run, variance, if you keep playing well it will turn around.. I know I can play, I have been playing well that is not my problem. My problem is I dont know if I have the mental make up to continue to play poker. My frusteration level keeps rising and rising. I take a week off, then come back and have 3 terrible sessions and I'm back here venting how much I fucking hate this game and wanting to put my fist through the wall. The best poker players can put this stuff behind them, I cant. If my ex is reading this she probably is thinking "I told you so" right about now but whatever.

I cashed out what I have left in Bodog and today transfered all the money from my neteller account to my bank account so I no longer have any money left online. The $1800 I had been using as my live roll is pretty much gone. So even if I get the stupid urge to play, I really wont be able too. School starts tommorrow, so maybe this is well timed, without poker I will probably have a much better quarter anyways.

Lastly I'm not quiting, I hate when people you know are going to keep playing, bitch that they are quiting when they lose. I dont want to be one of those people. I am going to take an extended break. I am going to go to Vegas to meet everyone so MVP dont get your panies all up in a bunch. I have no idea if I'm going to play when I'm there or just enjoy Vegas.

yknow what dood... we'll hook up in Vegas, get you 10 or 20 hookers, and it'll all be gravy after that baby... I think you may be suffering from CSB (chronic sperm backup).. I know when I don't get my fix for a couple days, I can't concentrate on dick...

nothing wrong with an extended break. We all need it from time to time.

Once you buy the new car and sell / burn / drive off a cliff the other 2, the financial pressure will be done. That was the point that I was suggesting picking up a new game. You aren’t going to be pressured to make money and you aren’t going to have expectation to make money (because it is a new game), so you will be playing solely for fun. Hopefully that will keep you from become a crotchety old poker burnout.
