Ok, I know survival is key in a SNG but I came across a hand that I was tempted to chase. I likely messed this hand up preflop.

I'm on the button and dealt . I have a stack of almost 900 and blinds are 15/30. UTG+1 raises it to 90 and there are 2 callers to me. With so many callers and being early in the tourney with no reads, I decide to just call and see if I hit. This was likely a mistake but since it was early, I wanted to see the flop to decide on what to do. Flop comes [4s][7d]. So I flopped the nut flush draw. Original raiser just goes all in for 905 more, he's got me covered. The other two immediately fold. The pot is 405 + his 905 so 1310 total. This play screamed of AK (maybe AQ) or a big PP. I'm beating AK and AQ and have a freeroll against AK but it could easily be a big PP that someone wanted to bet out the draw. My A or K might be good if hit, it might not. I laid it down, leaving me with 745 so I wasn't in bad shape. I'm not getting odds if he has what I think he may. This seems like an overly aggressive way to play a big PP but the pot was big enough to win right there.

Please critique and tell me how badly I played this hand. Was my preflop call instead of raise my only major mistake. What if I raised to 225 or so and reraised all in? Since its early, folding would seem to be the safe way. At least this way, I saved chips but I would have less of an idea of what he had.

I don't think the answer is such a clear cut fold. I think its one of those situations that Sklansky, and everyone now, talks about. Gambling a lot with a small edge in a tournament. It's prolly not a good idea. But if you bust out you can always just join another. Seriously the original raiser went all in on a ragged flop after raising pre flop. To me that screams of vulnerable overpair, any pair lower than kings, which is what I suspect he has, TT-QQ, maybe 99 if he is a loose raiser, and you're a small favorite. I believe Palman mentioned how widely used that bet is ON PARTYPOKER. The problem here is we ARE in a tournament and risking large sums of money on situations where you are only a slight favorite is not good play. I can't see him doing this with no pair, so there isn't any chance you're a huge favorite, I do however think that you are probably a small favorite in this case, but probably still have to fold.

I like the pre-flop call, but would fold it after the all in raise on the flop. Although there is certainly an argument for a call, with your 9 diamond outs, 4 to the straight and, possibly 1 or 2 overcards, you have a lot of outs, but I would be waiting for a better spot when I know I'm ahead, unless, as Nash and others have said, you have a reason to be suspicous of this player.

At the lower level s and gs I play, you can fold here and walk away with your 810 which will generally be enough to make the money.
