Interesting $50 PLO8 hand

Postby JDLush » Tue Feb 07, 2006 11:16 pm

Sorry, the converter blows goats.

I've been at the table for an hour, and hit some good hands, a rarity for me at $50 tables. Villain is unknown, seems decent.

***** Hand History for Game 3514381838 *****
$50 PL Omaha Hi/Lo - Tuesday, February 07, 23:47:28 EDT 2006
Table Table 64715 (Real Money)
Seat 9 is the button
Total number of players : 10
Seat 3: BurdTurglar ( $148.80 )
Seat 6: Black_Forge ( $124.77 )
Seat 7: Magela_ ( $49.06 )
Seat 8: australian11 ( $46.20 )
Seat 9: fbmoche ( $25.39 )
Seat 2: camrad ( $64.45 )
Seat 5: rstever ( $24.40 )
Seat 4: TheDonald ( $48.72 )
Seat 10: DebDoll ( $50.87 )
Seat 1: kenb44 ( $50 )
DebDoll posts small blind [$0.25].
kenb44 posts big blind [$0.50].
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to BurdTurglar [ 5h Kc Ac Jh ]
camrad calls [$0.50].
BurdTurglar raises [$2].
TheDonald folds.
rstever folds.
Black_Forge calls [$2].
Magela_ folds.
fbmoche folds.
DebDoll folds.
kenb44 folds.
camrad calls [$1.50].

Somewhat typical raise by me, just mixing it up a little. So far I have shown down good hands about 90% of the time.

** Dealing Flop ** [ Tc, 5c, 6h ]
camrad checks.
BurdTurglar bets [$4].
Black_Forge folds.
camrad calls [$4].

Not the ideal flop, but I do have TP and the nut flush draw. The 5 blows any chance of an emergency low, however, which hurts my hand value a lot with 2 low on the flop. I figure I'll stab at it and see what happens. Got one to fold, not great, but not terrible.

** Dealing Turn ** [ Ah ]
camrad checks.
BurdTurglar bets [$7].
camrad raises [$14].
BurdTurglar calls [$7].

Not at all sure what to make of the raise. Could be 23xx. Could be AA (less likely), could be he had a low and just picked up a flush draw. Anyone check the turn here? Reraise his min raise? Fold? With over half the deck as flush outs, plus 4 boat outs I can't see folding, but I really think I'm behind here and would rather see one of my zillion outs hit instead of pushing him in. Might be weakish tho, but I tend to get nervous when minraised.

** Dealing River ** [ 7s ]
camrad bets [$40.65].

Yeah, we knew that was coming. Anyone call it?

JD, I respect your game from the advice you've given, but I think this is one of those elusive "misplayed on all streets" kinds of hands.

Pre-flop: Your hand looks pretty double-suited with a bunch of high and low cards, but it's not really all that strong. You're going to need a pretty specific flop to make your hand playable past the flop. It's a fine hand to see a cheap flop and then bail if it misses, as it will most of the time. Or if you were on the button and wanted to raise to mix it up or whatever than I guess that's not terrible. You would have position at least, but I still think you're going to be folding so many flops that you won't be able to cover the costs of raising it up pre-flop versus the times when you do actually hit a flop. Raising it up UTG+1 is just bad. I would rather see you fold this hand than raise in that position.

Flop: You flopped bottom pair counterfeiting your low. You do have the nut-flush draw, but there are two to a low killing your equity for a lot of your flush cards. Betting the flop is crazy. I doubt you have much fold equity with 2 to a low and the coordinated 56. I wouldn't even want to call a pot bet with this flop. Checking with the intention of folding to a bet ~1/2 pot or greater seems best.

Turn: The A enables a low, but it might have counterfeited the villain. If he's tight, it might be worth a shot to try to take the pot away from him. Betting as a semi-buff seems okay here. It depends how you estimate your fold equity, but you definitely do not want to get check-raised. That min-check raise sucks to see. Calling sucks but so does folding. I honestly would be so pissed that I think I would call and be totally miffed about it.

River: Fold fold fold. I can't see how you can consider calling with a non-nut hand for half of the pot.

Pre-flop
All I can say is Ugg. This is a hand that I would play from OTB but I am not even sure it is worth a limp UTG, and definitely not worth a raise. The problem with this hand is even if you hit a good flop you are going to be drawing so you want to keep it cheap. Raising here is setting yourself up for problems on later streets (exactly what happened).

Flop
I almost never CB when A2 makes a low draw. If you raised pre-flop and got 2 callers chances are someone hit this flop hard enough to call. If they were 2 players with a VP$IP of 80 and a WtSD of 15 then maybe I would CB. Against any other player check and hope you get a free card to make your flush.

Turn
Depending on the opponent this isn’t a horrible time to take a stab at the pot. I think that I fold to the CR though. Min CR most of the time means you are going to be facing a large river bet.

River
Have to fold.

If "The Lush" is a double-suited AxPP where x is a non-deuce wheel card and HH are 2 picture cards, then sure, I'll put my nick on that. :D

Of course, maybe I should check and see if it's profitable in PTO before saying how much I like it. :D
